Project 'sillyteg'

I AM A GENIUS!

Y'know where 'INTEGRA' is embossed in the rear bumper?

You should find a way to get more 'A's put in and continue them right around to the arch.

numberplate on the dashboard for the "it just fell off officer" win :D

failing that, what are the rules regarding numberplates on sticky back plastic stuck to the bonnet like i see some E Type restoration projects with ?

totally not aloud, but allot of people (MX5s inc) get away with it.... Personally i'd stick with the plate but offset it to the right.

OMG DISASTER!!!!

Well, that was an interesting afternoon..........

I was driving the car to work, it was all going fine, temps were good, pressures were good, car was running fine when suddenly about 100yds from my work cars started flashing me, then a second later smoke started pouring out from the heater vents, then the bonnet........

I pulled over and opened the bonnet to be comfronted by loads of smoke and flames

As I got on the phone to the fire brigade a passer by had the quick thinking to run into my workplace and grab a fire extingusher, he put the fire out before it spread too far. This is how the engine looked after it had been put out:

I had a bit of a dig, and it turns out the culprit was the turbo oil feed line. The hose had come right out of the fitting, sprayed oil all over the hot exhaust manifold and downpipe and ignited. I can only assume that it was shoddy workmanship on the hose, maybe it wasn't crimped properly. It actually looks like it pulled out, but I left plenty of slack for engine movement so I don't think that was the reason. It appeares that it just blew out of the fitting under pressure...

The hose:

I cleaned the worst of the oil and crap off from everything and looked for damage, thankfully I appear to have been damn lucky. The only damage is:

Boost controller knob:

Injector wires charred:

Breather hoses:

Vac pipe charred:

Laquer on bonnet stained yellow:

All easily fixed. I have done the wires and hoses already, and bonnet needs to be relaquered anyway so that's not a massive issue. I just need to find a Goodridge/Aeroquip/JIC fitting for the oil line tomorrow morning, I think Merlin Motorsports at Combe do them, so if that goes OK the car might make it to Japfest yet............

Man that suck, all that hard work and now your back under the bonnet fixing it.
Hope all the best for you man and your sweet car.

Krikey, your v.lucky not to have lost a lot of wiring etc as I'm sure your aware ;)

I'd be sending photos off to whoever supplied that hose asking for some freebies and another hose, thats shocking workmanship

When I saw the flames and smoke I was just expecting it to end up a burnt out mess, I felt sick :(

I owe that passer by a pint or ten, but he had gone before I had the chance to thank him properly :(

I will be doing that, for definate.

That sucks but what a save, its always nice when people actually help others rather than just stand and watch. Looks like a lovely cleaning job...

had a few issues with my aeroquip hoses (that i made) - if you make them yourself best way to cut the braided hoses is with a chisel, gives the finest cut possible, really easy to build them all yourself and like you said Merlin motorsport are good sources but it depends on which fittings you are using 6AN maybe?

glad it was just oil and no serious damage was done mate :)
