Project 'sillyteg'

I love it when new parts arrive:D

Right, sorry Jonny, I got impatient, I've ordered everything now :o

Everything is ordered now including a nice shiny Garrett T3/T04. A couple of bits have arrived, but eveything else is coming from the states so should be here next week hopefully. Turns out the catch can I ordered is coming from China, despite being advertised as being in the UK, so it'll be a week or so before that arrives

Here's what I have now:

Engine Mount Inserts:

Boost Gauge (didn't think I would be needing one of these again :D )

Cam-cover breather filter:

I know, not very exciting, the intersting parts should be here towards the end of next week ;)

I'm picking the short engine up on sunday, and I'll start removing my engine on monday, so hopefully if I'm not left waiting for parts it shouldnt take more than a couple of weeks.

Where did you buy the mount inserts from?

I'm ready to throw the towel in with mine now, i've been fannying on the last 2 days, stuff just isn't going together as it should :(

Sorry to hear that dude, I saw your thread over at ITR-DC2 about the spring seats :(

I got the inserts from funkypower.com.

Yeah, i'm waiting to hear back from Supertech about them. It seems its a problem nobody has ever had before :( I think it's going to result in me having them taken back out, machined, then pressed back in. I've also been having bother with my ARP rod bolts and some big end bearings. It's doing my head in :D

I know where you are coming from Simon, I've seen great things about the Disco Patato, but I'm an impatient git and wanted to start getting everything together :o

I got this T3/T04 for a damn good price too  (no, it's not an ebay chinese knock-off ;) )

Can someone explain a screamer pipe to me? I know what it does but have never heard one and don't understand how it benefits the car.

Ta :)

One must have item for my next turbo car is anti lag. I just have to have insta-popbang :)

Eddscott, the screamer pipe has no benefit to the car I don't believe. It just leaves the wastegate to scream its head off but in a seperate piece of pipework, so isn't drowned out by the exhaust.

Just checking, I take it you have seen the turbos where the compressor housings fall apart. Unsuprisingly the glue holding the two halves together tends not too cope well with the heat.

Screamer pipe diverts the wastegate gases straight to atmosphere, less restriction then putting it back into the exhaust and hence you can get a bit more power

Yeah I've seen them, scary stuff

The turbo I have bought is a genuine Garrett unit from a reputable seller, not turboXS/ss-autochrome/generic ebay crap.

How does a T3/T04 compare to a TD04/05? Are they similar in power as the TD series?

TD series are made by Mitsubishi, T3 etc are made by Garrett (and clones).

Depending on spec, a T3/T04 hybrid has considerably more power potential than TD04 or a TD05. IIRC a TD05 is at it's limit at around 350bhp, in the right 'trim'a T04 can flow for 450bhp+....

OK, I have finally started work on this, didn't get a chance to do a lot this-morning but it's a start nonetheless.

I picked the short engine up yesterday, it's in great condition. Bores are clean as a wistle and you can still clearly see the honing cross-hatching on the walls. Only downside was the fact that two of the ARP head stud washers are missing, so I've had to order a full set. £23 for some washers.....

(Crappy phone pics today, I CBA to go inside and get my camera :o )

I still haven't took the sump off and looked at the bottom end yet, I'll probably do that tomorrow morning.

I've started removing parts ready to remove the engine:

The car is now looking a bit sorry for itself:

Whilst I was doing that my Omni-power 4bar MAP sensor arrived:

The standard MAP sensor ****s itself when over 1bar boost so this is a bit of future-proofing. I'm amazed at how quickly this arrived from the US, I only ordered it on thursday

I've waited longer than that for things from here in the UK........

I'm hoping to get the motor completely ready to remove tomorrow morning.
