Project: SR-2 Desk

I never realised just how many components went into this build, it's unbelievable. This really is going to be a thing of beauty once you get it back from Powercoat. I hate to think the cost of building something like this, but once it's all coated and fully assembled, it's going to be SO worth it. Superb work and I can't wait to see it re-assembled in all it's glory :D

Awesome, just awesome. I have some basic skills along this line but nothing on you, sir, full respect.

Out of interest what will it weigh, roughly?

So many components :P I was going to do a total parts count n stuff when I put it together, as to be honest, its never had a ground up assembly in one go before.

And weight wise its not as bad as you might think, I can still lift the frame with all the panels in place (still surprisingly light), only starts to get meaty once the components go in. You can still move the desk about with everything in though, but once you attach the screen stand however, its staying where you've put it.

Hello!

Just to give a quick update; I've moved house, I have a room full of computer parts and no desk to put them in yet and getting the frame polished is proving annoying as the machine I was planning on using is broke.

However, it should be fixed this week, then all will be well with the world.

Also I polished up the screen stand as the machine I'm waiting on can't do round stuff properly.

You will all be please to know that the glass survived the journey to the new house and made it up the stairs without incident!

I also had to get my new landlords permission to move a radiator to accommodate where I'll be putting the desk... nothing like a nice simple move...

Also fun, try describing a computer desk to a contents insurer.

im fairly certain it wouldnt need to be insured against theft. :D

Indeed, good luck to the burglar that tries.

When are you due to get this back from Powdercoat? I can't wait to see what it looks like when it starts to get assembled for the final time :D

Powder update! I've got bored of waiting for my brother to get it polished, so I made the 200 mile round trip back home to pick it up today, I'll be taking it to a metal finishing place this Wednesday.

Powder...

Picked the metalwork up this morning... Picture quality is a bit crap, but its a quick n grubby shot with a phone camera in the boot of my car, but in case you cant tell from the picture, "rather good" is a bit of an understatement...

That looks beautiful!

Can't wait to see this all together.

I think we might have to start a fund to support you without the need to work for a few weeks so you can get this done. The suspense is killing me!

 DAMN!!! That looks even more awesome in Powder Coat than I could have imagined . . . I honestly can't wait to see what this looks like once you start fixing it all together. This is one of the best builds on this site without a doubt. Outstandig quality of workmanship and it certainly looks like the quality of the Powder Coat hasn't let it down in anyway :)

Cant you pull a "sicky" at work and get it put together? :D

you probably know this already but make sure you run a tap through the threads that have been powder coated, be a shame to ruin any thing at this stage
