Project: SR-2 Desk

Without doubt the best Desk build I've seen. Your attention to detail is superb. I wish I had the time and skills to attempt something like this. I can't wait to see it all put together and up and running :)

Hello!

Busy weekend, I was planning on having the desk finished by the 20th, as I'll be moving into my new place, but it doesnt look like ill be able to get the metal work polished this week, so it may take an extra week or two to get the coating and anno sorted.

BUT

In theory, the metal work and building.... is done... the last of this was the side speaker stands.

First, turned some bits to mimic the current base for the speakers

Milling a slot in the back of these at the right angle to have the speaker vertical, then drill n tap the mounting holes

Then for the extension bars

Made some conical washers for mounting the bars onto the groove in the screen stand

That's it for this weekend, this lot took a bit longer than expected and I only had one day for desking this weekend.

Next week should be taking it all apart and I've got a plan to make the DVD drive a bit more entertaining too, so ill have a bash at that.

One word.... Soon...

Sam.

This is looking awesome man :) I really like the monitor stand and speaker brackets. I want one! :)

Are you not a bit worried about the sharp corners at the front of the desk? Will hurt like **** if/when you hit your elbows off them lol

Looks fantastic.. But... No airflow/exhaust for the board and components that aren't liquid cooled?

Cheers guys :)

questions! there are only a couple of components that aren't liquid cooled, two mechanical drives and two ssd's, the mechanical drives are slow and quiet drives, so wont get too toasty, the ssd's are screwed to base plates. the aquaero will have a heat sink on it, but the wattage going through it isn't anywhere near what would cause an issue.

But, the whole desk, is in fact one large aluminium heatsink :)

as for the corners, when you have been underneath this desk more than once, you come to terms with the fact that not compromising on design and having everything rigidly square wasn't altogether the best plan. handily the glass will cover all the corners from the top.

oh and for people asking about hardware changes, I wouldn't mind updating the gfx cards a bit, but to replace the three 580's with even two 780's plus cooling them would be a bit costly for the time being. but as the cooling is split the way it is, it would be fairly straight forward to implement. So I wouldn't hold your breath, but its something I'm thinking about.
