Project; Turbo GSXR Slingshot

Not much to update really, last couple of months has been tight on cash for one reason or another.

My head, barrels and pistons have gone to the mighty Roger Upperton, he'll be porting the head, re-cutting the valve seats and skimming it too.
Also the pistons will get a looking over, a small radius will be put on the top edge, valve cut outs trimmed a bit to prevent any hot spots, and if there's enough material he'll machine a small dish in them as well.
Plus a re-bore and the rings gapped.

I've been measuring the crank and rods up for the new bearings, just got to work out which bearings I need now.

Also got a set of cases completely stripped down, got to finish cleaning them then paint them up. Got some PJ1 satin black so just need to get the etch primer.

I've also bought zinc plating kit so just getting to grips with that, don't think they'll be much on this bike that I'll do but the GSXR and the DR have quite a few bits between then.

Actually sounds like quite a bit!

:)

Got my engine bits back from the mighty Roger Upperton the other day, very nice to see things coming back together.

Also, if you're at Event City this weekend keep an eye out, the bike will be there. Only empty engine cases but the rest should be in place.

The bike has made its first appearance in public, got quite a bit of interest actually which was nice.

I bought some koso clocks for it as well so I have the dash to alter now!

What a thing! :)

Should be when its finished!

Picked up a Buell 1125 front end today, the forks look a little shorter but I'll have a look tomorrow and see how they're going to fit in. Got a fibreglass muddy with those as well but its not ready yet. He'll also probably help me alter my seat unit when the pillion seat goes on.

Dropped the crank, rods and pistons off for balancing too, should be back in a week or 2.

Had a quick look at the front end, custom yokes are on the cards.

Started stripping the engine cases ready for painting, Nitro Mors for the win!
Cruddy pic though!

Got the starter clutch cover primered so I'll give the a coat of PJ1 tomorrow and see what finish I get.

Nitro Mors is not what it was 20 years ago but I can recommend something with the bang it had, I will find the product name and reply if you wish ? the product is down a friends at the moment I can not remember the name lol.

That'd be great if you could. The stuff I used was about 4 years old and I'm sure they've removed something from it now so its not the same anymore. I've got some double strength stuff coming but I don't know how good it'll be.

"Langlow stripawaypro" I have removed powder coating with this.

Use just as old school Nitro Mors.

Nitromors (and many other paint strippers) were neutered a few years ago by the removal of methylene chloride for health and safety reasons. It's now overpriced, useless junk that absolutely doesn't do what it says on the tin

However you can still buy proper paint stripper with methylene chloride from some trade paint suppliers, but it's not obtainable through DIY stores. The stuff mentioned above is the genuine article, you can tell because the online shops that sell it demand proof that it will only be used for industrial applications :D

Cheers .one. seems tricky to buy though, need to find a local trade place that sells it.

I've cleaned the cases up with a bit of P600, came up good really.

Also started painting the odd bit, fairly easy really. Just have to build the black up slowly.

Cam cover primered,

And painted, dulls off to a nice satin finish when dry,

Starter Clutch cover

It shows up dinks etc but I'm not spending my entire life getting a mirror finish on an engine!

:p

The double strength Nitromors came today, does sod all now they've taken Dichloromethane out of it!

Just found some paint stripper pro though so bought 5L of that.

Got the pillion seat pretty much mounted, just need to find a lock. I wouldn't be getting on the back that's for sure!

Rear caliper hanger and torque arm came off the mill today, fits perfect first time. Don't know if I'm good at measuring and drawing or just lucky! Gave it a quick sand blast and got rid of the machining marks and it looks pretty trick. Will get it anodised black.

It was around £420 for the barrels boring, rings gapped, valve seats re-cut, porting, plenum matched to the intakes, cam sprockets slotted and delivery back to me.
Really good price I think.

The crank, rods and pistons have been back a few weeks now, that was £60 for all those balanced.
