Project: Virgin Enthusiast Build

functional over pretty any day ... all well and good having watercooling looking good but its when you find its cooling a socket 7 then its just why would you do that :)

nice isntall pics, were the stock cooler screws hard to remove? hearing horror stories of loctite and in one poor chaps case DRILLs

Yeah, a bit firm but nothing too bad on either of mine. They used that blue glue stuff on the screws. But with the correct sized screwdriver and a little force, they all came free fine :)

LOLOL why thank you sar!

in all honestly it looks like a very well put together system mate, some lovely bits of kit in there......maybe one day I can afford to do the same......"goes to put kidney on ebay"

Well, all bits arrived. Still not heard back from water jet cutters so will probably make do without the side panel cut for now.

To be honest, far too drunk to be doing anything for now!

least you ordered the bits before you got drunk lol

friend I used to work with with be sat at work and a huge package would arrive and he would sat looking puzzled at it, upon inspection of the invoice it would appear at 2am a few nights before while completely mashed he ordered half a core2 setup online lol

Phatboy, that's hilarious mate!

Lian Li rad brackets didn't quite fit my radiator, so will need some modding.

The dust filters didn't quite fit how I wanted either so will need some modding.

Case is also going to need the bottom hard drive cage column type things taken out, so will need modding!!!

Off to B&Q again then!

Right, Rads installation....

The double rad naturally fits well vertically in the hard drive columns, darwing air in from the front door, so that location was fixed. I had problems ensuring enough clearance for the quad rad though, so looks like the SSD wont be getting installed into a hard drive space. still need to find a space for that!!!

The quad rad has caused me some thought mind.... My preference would be to suck air in from the base of the case as im not too keen on taking in from the side panels, I think it can just look a bit naff if not done properly. So went on a mission to hunt down a local water jet cutters to do a proper job on the side panel. got me some nice dust filters for the fans also, to hide inside the case of course. so the eyes would only see a nice mesh pattern professionally cut.

That was the plan before I started to size things up properly!

I have a Phobya quad rad stand to stand the rad vertically on the base of the case. problem being not so much with the double rad clearance problem, but the damn SLI graphics cards!!! The tubing from the lower card would have been major kinked. It would need a 90 degree fitting to allow the vertical rad I think. Also, the double rad would have have to have been pushed up further, which would have probably meant I could not have a CD drive, owing to my two reservoirs. Of course, I could have got different reservoirs and put them inside, but space is running out as it is!

so.....

back to the original plan! quad rad laid horizontally on the base of teh case, sucking air in from the floor. hopefully the fans will suck enough air through without there being too much of a wooshing noise owing to the reduced area for air to come in (just the height of the cases feet - which I may extend if temps/noise prove a problem with rad this way).

havent figured out my dst filter solution now. may wedge the ones I have in there somehow or may just resort to sticking a hoover up the cases arse every 6 months or so!

Anyway, pix ;)

Marking out the cutting line...

And we're through!

My dremel skills got better as I went on, but there are some pretty shocking over cuts if you look closely. not too straight either, but shouldnt matter too much as its getting covered up.

Just need to tidy up the edges, soften them up a bit as they're a bit sharp now...

Thats a bit better :)

I was dissapointed with the Lian Li brackets, they didnt fit my XSPC double rad so had to make smoe temporary butcherings until I get a more permanent (neat) solution:
