dont forget to remove this from the ek block! im sure you wont, but you never know....

looks shiny enough, but look what i noticed...

IMGP3236.JPG

very ripply!!! my wall next to the curtains definately doesnt have that many kinks in!!!

anyway, back to the thermal paste seating test...

IMGP3243.JPG

not bad. i think the uniformity was my bad for not seating it with even pressure as the screw threads are tight against the block's holes

showing you some clearances around the motherboard now...

plenty as you can see. so all you peeps with a ud7 looking to buy this block, go for it!

spreading the arctic silver that was left on the cpu and block as thin and evenly as possible. remember, this was 5 small blobs so not that much paste at all. you could probably spread it even thinner i reckon, if your better with the "condom" method than me!

And one fuzzy image of it all screwed in place to end this series...

now just got to install the pumps somewhere, cut some pipes, prime and leak test, then find a home for the SSD, then maybe get to boot this bad boy up sometime this weekend :D

Good work on the quad rad cut, looks really clean. I love the Armorsuit, has lots of potential. Looking forward to seeing this beast finished!

Thanks! if you look close, its really not that neat ;) all smoke and mirrors :D

I really really didnt like this case when it turned up. I was nervous when I ordered it tbh so was bit gutted when I opened it. its pretty shambolic quality for the money.

However...

Now I have started to build in it, I couldnt think of a better case for this WC setup!!! needs a lot of tweaks, sure, but then no-one takes on this kind of project without expecting some arse ache. especially if your as picky as me!

Right, heapies more pix....

CPU lapping first, better res;

wow, these really show how far from mirror like smooth it is!!! wait till you see the EK block, thats how this is meant to look. however, i reckon the CPU is flatter than the EK block as you will see....

From my experience in a foundry / metal fabrication shop i feel i can offer a few tips to ensure a more tidy finish.

As you are progressing through finer and finer grits, dont think of it as polishing: Think of lets say grit800 being used only to remove the scratches from grit400. Similarly with grit1200 from grit 800.

Now a good way to see if you have eliminated the previous grit's marks is to restrict your self to linear (opposed to radial) movement. I.e. Grit(n+1) movement is perpendicular to grit(n).

With regard to flatness, (with such small surfaces) the most essential ingredient is even pressure over the piece.

In deejaycee's photos it appears to me, that he did not spend enough time on the 800 grit, as the marks left in the copper are relatively deep (suggesting they were left from which ever coarsest grit he used) .

I had me an icy box, good piece of kit ;) i also took mine apart in the end though :D

good on you for having a bash at the HS. I am well tempted to give my CPU another go after hippie's input!!!

I have now hosed everything up after shoving my pumps in next to the mobo, installed vertically. should be ok i reckon, so long as i prime them well.

thing is, i ran out of hose :( I only need about another half meter and im done!!!! anyone near st albans fancy selling me some on saturday ;)

have ordered more, due for delivery around tuesday i reckon.... then finally some water!

dont think in all my time on these forums that any build thread has made me feel so noobish. looking sweet as mate. you defo deserve a 'Gold Blue Peter' badge:D (hope you're old enough to know how special those were). can't wait to see the finished article

gold blue peter badge? i thought i was the only one who remembered those! but i definitely agree with this. You really have put a lot of hard work and effort into this! well done! i am sure you are most proud of your new-build.

Thanks all, lovely comments :)

the way I figure it is that I have had so much help on here that the least I can do is a good job of logging the build in detail. Hopefully someone will get some help/inspiration from this.

As for me, I'm loving it haha! Few things I would do better next time (wait till you see my shocking hose runs!), but generally it's all going well. Albeit slowly!

Looking very good mate. Yes its a very heavy beast mine is.
Did you not consider the EK bridge unit for the cards?
I used it on my 5870 crossfire and it works very well.

Just ordered two geforce 480 links and one dual serial bridge that will put to bed my worries about that dodgy one slot connector I currently have installed. Thx again Gary. :)

No problem mate it does tidy it up nicely. I went for the parallel version myself EK said its better for high flow rates and the serial for lower flow

Yeah, saw that. Though some google results suggest with a decent pump the serial should see better temps. I fear my 480s need all the help with their temps they can get!
