Some news from theinquirer.net

SOURCES CLAIM that yields of the Cell microprocessor for the Playstation 3 are not good. A process mole tells us that the Cell yields are far enough below par that the amounts of good dies off the test wafers are "horrible".
The problem is that IBM and Sony designed the chip for some very aggressive process technologies that did not materialise in the way the fab boys were expecting. Because of this, we are told Sony is scrambling to get yields up before it has to make them for real, a fast approaching deadline.

Will it get it done? Who knows. Will it be able to make enough to satisfy initial demand? Not a chance. Then again, in consoles, what else is new?

It will be ready when its ready. Personally Im not too bothered, I am more than happy with my Xbox360 and couldnt care less how long it takes Sony to get their console out on the market. I am far more eager to see the Wii anyway.

Sounds more like a rumour to me, im gonna take it with less credibility. I know sony will not only pull a rabbit out of the hat but a Working-Hd ready-Bluray-cheap-ps3 out it as well.

This is really old news (its probably just a rumour though), sony have had months since to improve their yields since this was said anyway.

You pay for quality hardware and the latest features a lot of people are buying the ps3 because they will be cheaper than standalone blu-ray players. Im willing to pay more for a console that has the games I like, the 360 doesnt have any proper final fantasy games, gta is released on the ps3 before the 360 as are the metal gear solid titles (if they even come to the 360). At least none of the ps3s will be melting anyway...

Yeah you're right there... cos Sony have never been a bit slow off the mark releasing consoles. I mean it only took what, 9-10 months to release the PSP in Europe? Go them.
