The PSP? Then no.

I think it was worth it, in my opinion. Having said that, i got mine a week after launch in Japan for £360.

I think sony learnt their lesson and they gonna get it right this time.

I dunno, they didn't really suffer from the launch delays. They sold a lot of units over here on release, it's only since people have realised there' not many good games that the sales have started drying up.

It is a good console (PSP, got a white one imported for £200), but the way things are going for the PS3 it won't be out until early/mid 2007 so it will miss the Christmas sales as well as costing a fortune :/

I'm just gonna wait a little while until the problems with the 360 are sorted and buy one, followed bya HD telly and the PS3 and Wii can wait :p

I really hope they do, I loved the Playstation and PS2 so I am really looking forward to the Playstation 3, but as stated, I am more interested in the Wii at the moment and can afford to wait til Sony are ready.

Anyway, haven't Sony already announced a world-wide launch?

ya know, theres 1 thing ive just thought of after readin the bit in one of the posts above "people will be buyin the ps3 for hte cheap blu-ray playback"

well has anyone stopped to think, what if its dvd film playback is as poor as the 360's???

Or even as bad as the PS2s, (The 360, I've found once set up right, is perfectly good at normal playback).

Problem with the PS3 I believe that it may be a little early for the vast majority of owners of the console to start pushing Blu-Ray. To actually take advantage of this, you're going to need a HDTV. At a guess, the majority of the buyers of the PS3 are going to be people with normal TVs, using composite / SCART, meaning a Blu-Ray DVD isn't going to look much better than a normal DVD. Sure it's a good future proofing system for those that want to play films in HD, but we don't know if Blu-Ray is even going to catch on big time yet, as DVD isn't finished with still.

In the end, I see Blu-Ray taking over, and beating HD-DVD, but not for a good 2 years personally, when more people have HDTVs.

It wont matter because everyone will be using blu-ray :p Besides most other people will have a dvd player anyway.

haha no

As for getting the PS3 for its Blu Ray capabilities, that's the last thing on my mind. I want a PS3 to play good games on and that's it.

the ps3 fanboys dont seriously think it'll play blu ray well do they.... general rule is consoel SUCK fo dvds etc

Maybe if you have an all singing all dancing state of the art home cinema entertainment system then playing DVD's through a console is a bad idea... but for those of us who just enjoy watching the odd film on a quiet night in then the PS2 does the job very well and it's 100% better than watching VHS.

Really, some people are just so anal.!!!

I totally 213% agree with you my friend (that 113% more than 100%, which means you are not wrong especially on the last bit) :D

Yep I watched a few DVDs on my Xbox1 and it seemed good to me...

eeh by eck - don't you think that some people just take this whole console war thing a bit too seriously? I mean they are for playing games on right, not for battling each other with.!!!

Exactly i wouldnt think of using my 360 to play back dvds etc, i have a proper high end dvd player/recorder for that.

I use my PS2 or Xbox360 all the time for DVD playback whilst I am working, very handy. If I want to watch a DVD and relax I will watch it downstairs on my parents high-end entertainment system.

I think the original anti-playstation point was that DVD's on the first batch of playstations (ps2) was so unfathomably poor that a large number of titles were actually unwatchable. As a first gen PS2 owner i can confirm that this was the case. Synch was out on most movies, IQ was poor, a lot of special features would not work properly etc.

Of course its all fine and dandy now and a PS2 is just fine for watching DVD's. But Sony's track record of poor first batch consoles (yes i know MS are hardly better) makes me question both its likelyhood of success and its potential as a futureproofing tool.

IMO it may well be a great cheap blu-ray player, but we aint gonna need one of those for about 2-3 years, in the interim its the gaming side that'll count and currently i dont see what, other than final fantasy, it can offer to tempt me from 360, but ill keep an open mind.

I have a launch console and whilst the playback isn't great, it's fine for what I use it for, I never use it for sitting and watching a movie for example... And I had a faulty drive on my first one which was sent back after tearing SSX apart =[.

If you sent it back its not a launch console? first batch were the ones that scratched discs and had iffy playback.

Did depend on the DVD tho aswell, some were fine.
