PS3 Demand / Availability ?

Fair points above but there is not much difrence when you compare the 2. When you buy them spec for spec.

I like that PS3 has given me all i wanted in one box

Also Don't forget there is a cheaper Verson coming out without Wifi and 20gb HD

You might want to say, many shops on the high street had them in stock.

I don't see why it is a bad thing that they haven't sold out. (unless you bought one to sell on) Not everyone buys a console at launch and now when people walk into shops they will see the PS3 readily avalible and *might* just pick one up. People will always have different needs and wants, and that is why more than one console is avalible.

As VIRII said, the more competition, the more likely the quality of games and console will continue to rise, so roll on high sales of everything.

Competition might mean cheaper games but I also think that will mean poor quality games as they are ported from 1 platform to another.

OP. It's a very difficult thing to try and see how well the PS3 is doing on launch whichever way you look at it.

If you look at stock on shelves on launch day then you will see that both 360 and Wii had only a fraction of units available for launch (probably because of worldwide launch), they sell out and they get slated for not having enough supply. Sony have addressed this by having unpresedented figures for launch so that they don't sell out and get the bad press, but then when they are still sitting on shelves they get bad press anyway so they can't win.

If you take sales figures over the launch period for the three consoles then this isnt a fair comparison either as they were all launched at different times of year (PS3 and Wii were launched at the same time but Sony's wasn't world wide so still cant compare accurately). This coupled with the amount of units available for each and the fact you never get true SALES figures from the manufacturers makes it impossible to try and get accurate info as to who is doing the best imo.

If the Wii or 360 had 1,000,000 units available for European launch do you think they would have sold out this early in the morning on launch day? I'm not sure about the Wii but I very much doubt the 360 would have tbh.

Well that is the thing. When you compare them at full spec then the PS3 is not overpriced. However for many consumers buying add-ons bit by bit is more do-able.
I imagine that for Xmas many kids got a 360 premium from their parents, a wifi adaptor from Grandparents, a game from an Uncle and might get a HD_DVD drive for their birthday or something similar.

I could afford a PS3 but there is something about spending that much money that makes me want to wait for a price drop. Plus my 360 keeps me quite happy when I actually get a chance to play it (hence the benefit in a 2nd one for upstairs).

You can't mention the names of any outlet that sells products that OCUK sell.
OCUK sell 360's so you can't mention the places you mentioned.

Not if people refuse to buy poorly done ports.

It looks like everywhere has ample stock.

What I'm waiting to hear about are the people that bought a few to sell on who now realise they aren't going to be able to cash in on ebay.

I know there's a few guys downstairs here at work who've done just that.
I bought 19 to resell on eBay,
When I get them every one is going straght back, Thank god for distance selling regulations.

19? That was ambitious reselling, a shame it did not work out for you. I had one on pre-order and cancelled it a week or so ago, just seems a lot of cash for the use it will get given that I hardly get time to play the 360 or Wii.

lol, what an effort, won't you lose out on ~£200 to post them back?

I bought and sold 2 360's and 2 wii's on launch. Had a PS3 pre-ordered to do the same but cancelled it a month ago when it became clear it'd be pointless. Just seen one go on the bay for cheaper than retail.

I bought em from 3 different providers so will probs cost around £60

Stock seems to be no problem. When I was in town a short while ago all the stores seemed to have stock available - one even had a sign outside saying they had 17 units available.

Nope, I have no interest in them so I don't bother
Did the same with the Wiis too, except I didn't preorder many, so had to queue up with my bro
Got some from a competitor
Queued in Asda from 10-4am, when they suddenly decided just to sell them at 4am for some reason.

Then went to toys R us and queued.

they cost like £180 I think, and they were going for around £380 each,

£1400 for 11 hours work = £127 per hour

Jamoor, you got greedy, far to greedy, could you not tell last week that the PS3 was not going to sell out, I had 4 on order and cancelled them all.

I made a fortune on the 360 and Wii launch but I did not get blinded by greed.
