PS3 or not?

Not at all, the context was completely different.

In the original thread the potential buyer didn't own either the Xbox360 or PS3, so I recommended the Xbox360.
In this thread the owner did own an Xbox360, so I recommended getting the PS3 as well because it's a brilliant machine.

2 brilliant consoles, however the Xbox360 has the stronger games, so I would recommend that first every time at the moment. So no, the context WAS different.

Sorry, I'm not having that - in the original thread the potential buyer was asking people to convince him to buy a PS3 - he already had a 360 but sold it so that negates your argument. This thread is asking people if he should buy a PS3 - sound familiar ?.

Yeah 2 for now as the bundle, looks like a wee bit of choice which is good. May buy more if I see fit! Thats what happened with the Xbox 360 V1N, I did not know what to buy and playing the demos more or less settled it for me.

Heavenly Sword and Resistance looks like the 2! I dont really play racing games, I like RPG/Adventure/Sports mainly

Yes, he had sold it, but it was prior to the really big titles being released.
So I thought recommending the Xbox360 was worthwhile.

Fair enough.

If these are to be "free" games coming with the console, then better off getting newer ones of course, as the older ones you could get off the bay cheap anyway.

That being the case, if you're interested in Heavenly Sword, that's a good newish one to go for. As for Resistance, even though it is a great game, I'd recommend a newer one, if you can get it free, and pick up Resistance afterwards for £15 or so... seen it on the MM for that.
Just trying to get you more for your money ;)

Depending on when you're going to buy, I think Haze should be out soon, that's another FPS I'm looking forward to.

EDIT. Or if you like RPG, maybe Folklore would be your cup of tea? I didn't like it, not my thing, but it did look nice... my Brother is an RPG fan, and when he saw the demo here, it was enough to convince him he wanted a PS3. as for Adventure... Drake's Fortune is due out soonish too... and that looks like a good'en too :)

Well, My 2 games would be Heavenly Sword and Oblivion :p But if you have it on 360, Then the darkness, unless you have that on the 360...Then erm, RFOM hehe

He might have that on 360 too :p.

If you want exclusives, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Heavenly Sword are 2 exclusive titles I'd recommend. As someone who doesn't like racing games then I could only recommend Resistance on top of those as an exclusive as the other 2 I'd recommend are racing games (Formula 1 and Motorstorm).

If you go for Oblivion, be aware that there is a new one coming out soon with all the updates (Game of the Year edition).

I have Oblivion for the PC so wont need that. God it's going to be hard..might just buy more games on top now! Gaming is great these days! So much choice for all platforms in the next few months! I've got PES2008 (Xbox 360), Assassins Creed (Xbox 360), UT3 (PC) and Mario Galaxy (Wii) on preorder..I can see this list rising!

As I said above, I only disagree with this IF the potential buyer doesn't already own a decent gaming PC. If he has nothing the XBOX would give the better entertainment I'm sure. If he has a gaming PC already, I think the PS3 would offer more variety in games.

What with the price drop of late as well, it should also be taken into consideration if the potential buyer is a movie fan or not, as the bluray player really is impressive, and fantastic at that price, not to mention the impressive PS3 upscaler.

I've just got back from Lunch in town, and when I popped into a highstreet store, I was looking at the games line up in the charts for both consoles and I can see how many games are now on PC that are on the consoles.. so I can see that point, however, looking at the PS3 shelves, it seemed that there where a higher percentage of games that where also on PC to the 360 shelves... perhaps just looking at what probably is their top 30 is not a true representation...

I was also thinking that although a good PC can surpass the consoles graphically, what about on-line? one good thing with the consoles is their online presence is very very strong, is playing R6Vegas on the PS3/360 better then the PC due to the amount of people online? I don't know, but it may be a point worth noting..

I think its fair to say you will play a PS3 more over the next year than you are likely the Wii.
Get one and stop being a sissy. In the history of video gaming their was never a time when only a single system was suffice. PS3 blumming marvelous it is, err it will be...

I certainly won't be.

I was talking about exclusives.
Cross platform games for the PS3, are generally on the XBOX360 and PC as well.

"Exclusive" games for the XBOX360 can be had on the PC as well, but not the PS3.

Exclusive games for the PS3, stay on the Playstation.*

That's all I meant. If you want to play the PS3 exclusives, you need a PS3. If you want to play XBOX exclusives, you can often also do this on the PC. Not always, of course, but often. This is why I waited for the PS3 to come out.

As for the online presence, I'd have said the PC beats all? It started it, and is free. I'm not going to suggest this as fact however, as I don't know, but games such as UT3 I should imagine would have more PC players online than the consoles?

EDIT:
I'm talking about games like Motorstorm, Resistance, F1, Folklore etc
Exclusive games for the XBOX like Bioshock for example, are exclusive to XBOX as a console, but, I can play it on my PC, so don't NEED an xbox to play it. Even games like Gears of War and Halo, although delayed (to shift as many consoles as possible I'm sure) make it to the PC.

Ahh I see where you are coming from.. I'd have to see the 'numbers' on that though, as my gut feeling is you may well be shooting yourself slightly in the foot.. but I may be wrong..
If you compare PS3 true exclusives to 360 true exclusives, is it in favour of the PS3? no idea where we are these days..

IMO, it is in favour.
I look at the "true" exclusives, and find that for the most part, the games I want to play on the XBOX360 come out on the PC, albeit in some cases, after a delay. Usually improved as well.

Games that I wanted to play on the PS3, like initially, Motorstorm, remain only on that format.

Cross format games don't matter, as I can play them anyway, such as Burnout Paradise and GTA IV. If they weren't coming out for PS3, I may have gone more towards the XBOX, but as it happens, the games that I want generally come out for the PC or PS3. The ones that are left purely on XBOX don't bother me so. Really, most of the "top" games that come out for the xbox, that aren't cross platform, come out on the PC too... with the exception of, at the moment I'm thinking of the PGR games... but, I'll just wait for GT anyway.

I personally thought Rainbow Six: Vegas felt a better game on the Xbox360 than on PC (although I never played online on PC), games like GRAW and GRAW2 were also better on Xbox360 and were slightly different.

I've played RB6Vegas on all 3, and being honest I prefer it on the PS3, its a pile of tosh on the PC, the 360 version is very very good and very close to the PS3 version, both are great online, but the PS3 just looks better to me, I think it has less motion blur.

Yeah, I played R6V on PS3 and PC and I have to admit that the PS3 is much better - I normally much prefer FPS games on PC too, but the controls just seemed over complicated.
