PS3 or Wii?

The same one they've been wittering on about for years. Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo.
For me, the big one is God of War for me.

Only 4 of the biggest gaming franchises, I am surprised their ever mentioned tbh...

Why does everything end up being a thread about whether the PS3 or 360 is the most powerful?

The OP asked whether to buy a Wii or PS3, but as usual certain members can't help but mention the 360, and turn the thread into the usual my dad's bigger than yours discussion

technically??? :D

In a way you are telling the truth but its an empty truth designed to mislead people!!

I hope you werent comparing like for like ie GPU to GPU Nokkon. And using that as the basis for your argument that the 360 is better graphically than the ps3.

You honestly should know better. Indeed i thought you did? I shall have to revise my opinion about your 'knowledge' of the ps3 cell architecture...
No, the graphical quality of the Xbox360 is more powerful, where as the processing power of the PS3 is better.

This is of course according to many reports from people in the industry.
As I said, technically one of more powerful in the other in one way and the other in another way, but they are basically the same.

It's called trying to help as opposed to giving him a decision based on a lack of information. As he said later on, "isn't the xbox a little long in the tooth".
People here do try to recommend the best things, not because they prefer them, but because they are the best. The sooner you recognize that, the better.

Afraid so...

I have looked at plenty of screenshots/movies comparison between 360 and PS3. Many times over, 360 looked a bit better, just a bit!

From that comparisons, I have noticed that many PS3 games do not have anti-aliasing to smoothen out jagged edges because if they do, it won't have enough power to keep up with 360.

However, if I have a choice between 360 and PS3, I would go for PS3 for wifi, blu-ray, free online play and some exclusives.

Mended for you ;)

If you mostly play by yourself get a PS3, otherwise get a Wii :)

360 is the best bet though, why have you ruled it out?

Have to agree with this.

Basically between the 360 and the PS3 its personal choice but the Wii is a different playstyle altogether.

There are some amazing games out for the Wii that you can spend many hours playing through on your own but the console is for multiplayer mostly.

The PS3 and 360 have "mostly" the same games, so I'd advise to have a go at both (if you can) See which controller you prefer, if you like Live! or PSN better, if you want a blu-ray player, if you want the GTA content and of course if there are any exclusives you cannot live without.

I only got a PS3 because I got a good deal (As far as PS3s go) and I have to say that although they may not have persuaded me to buy the console I love Ratchet and Clank and Warhawk. I am also really looking forward to LBP whenever it arrives.

I dislike the controller so all the multiplatform games are bought on the 360 and this serves me well as I also prefer live...might not be the case for you which is why I urge you to try them out first.

Well is it? I can't see anywhere that you give any reasoning to suggest otherwise apart from saying the gfx on the 360 are better.

That's just laughable really, absolutely no reasoning at all.

At least I gave credit to each console where it was due, the OP can at least make a decision based on what he's looking for out of the console.

Seriously, have you seen GT5P in action? (not GT5 HD) It pretty much blows any 360 racer out of the water, physics and graphics wise. Compare COD4 on both systems, they are identical. Don't be put off by people saying the 360 is best, it may be for them, but for you? Only you can decide. If you end up with a 360 then that's great (has some fantastic games), just stick to what YOU want.

a lot of the usual Bias in here. :p

360 is spot on wez, So is the PS3. Both offer a different gaming experience to the Wii.

Look at the games available now and in the future on both consoles, Via gametrailers, or there are countless threads on OCUK showing whats to come, and make your choice on that.

Ignore the more powerful GPU comments, as that has nothing to do with the games that will come to the console, Good developers will use the hardware they are given the best way they can.

I have also looked at loads as well. I wont disagree too much with what youve said. I can barely notice any difference at all and in some games i thougt ps3 version looks better...its swings and roundabouts really.

Compared as a separate cpu and gpu (which imo is a flawed way of looking at the graphical power and functionality of the ps3) then yep 360 has the better gpu and ergo the better graphical prowess like Nokkon said. In practical, real terms it hasnt proven sufficiently to make much difference that i can see.

And we havent really seen the 2nd Tier Ps3 games yet. Though you could consider Uncharted: Drakes Fortune to be the first. Graphics quality on it are mightily impressive :D

Which is why 2008 should be an awesome year for the ps3 :) Year 1 out of the way - now the big guns are a coming :D

Spot on, sir.

I have seen GT5P and it looks great. I was talking about the comparison between the ports, I know it's not a great comparison as I was just checking out to see any difference.

Actually, I'm considering to buy PS3 sometimes this year. :)

For me, PS3 40GB is a bargain at £280 considering that I get wifi (need it!) and free online play and then you get blu-ray as a bonus.

I won't bother with Xbox 360 Elite which costs £280 from the same store and I will then have to add £95 (£40 Gold & £55 Wifi adapter) making it the most expensive console of all three, even without HD drive = total £375!! And the noise and reliability of 360 is another matter to deal with! ;)

PS3 = £249, google is your friend. The ports for PS3 are mostly bad, but that's due to EA mainly. COD4, Dirt, Oblivion are some examples of good coding, unlike the poo sticks at EA. I really love some of the games on my 360 but I'm honestly fed up with the noise/reliability issues, the PS3's supreme media playback and allround quality has sealed the deal for me.

Out of those two i'd say PS3 definately, the Wii just doesnt have the complete package or the longivity i feel.

However on another note i'd also like to point out yo shouldn't discount the 360. We have the ps3 and 360 in the house and im definately using the 360 a lot more, personal preference perhaps, xbox live is absolutely great and the wealth of people still playing the much older games online is class. People keep saying the PS3 will win in the end....as far as i see it, it cant win anymore, just even up the playing field...which still may not happen. 360 is cheaper, more and far superior games, xbox live, more people own it, out longer. I think all those mean it should be considered no1, at least for the moment.

PS3 certainly could have the brighter future, i expect it to improve the quickest but it cant ever beat the 360 in a number of definitive areas already
