PS3 should I/Shouldnt I?

Well from what I have been seeing round shops and on the net lately blu ray seems to have the majority at the moment, and the fact that with a PS3 the blu ray player is included rather than having to buy a seperate unit to go with my 360...

HD-DVD is dead now. The "war" was won about a month back?

Only place you'll see HD-dvd drives and movies now, Will be in bargain bins. :p Which is fine by me. You give me a good deal on a drive and movies, I'll buy them. Has to be an awesome deal though, Like 30 quid for the drive and 3 movies :D

I surprised nobody has mentioned the PS3 Media Server capability. Set your Windows Media Player up as a Media Server (Library | Media Sharing) and instantly ALL your music, DVD rips, AVIs, pictures, etc. are wirelessly available to view and listen to on your home multimedia center through the PS3. No more dragging the laptop over and fiddling about with audio and video cables. No more encoding and burning DVDs of the episodes of Lost you just downloaded. Just play it!

umm I don't think you are getting the joke, are you?

I have a PS3 now (got a very good deal off my friend)

I don't prefer it to the 360, but I certainly think it is at LEAST as good. In terms of hardware, the PS3 feels far more polished (more connections, built in wifi and ethernet for example). Plus it is more quiet, and I like the fact that the power brick is built in to the console, despite the fact that it makes the console larger.

I love some gets like RFOM, Tekken, and look forward to Drakes and Sword Of Heaven.

And with MGS, GT and other games coming out PS3 is finally picking up steam. Ideal situation is to own a 360 and a PS3... but if you can only get one, its really a toss up. Look at the games coming out on both and see which you prefer in that case.

Why? HD-DVD's are just as good as Blu-Rays, earlier movies more-so. Since the war has been won I've picked up a Toshiba HD-DVD player and 5 movies, couldn't be happier.

No decent exlusives?

Warhawk,
Uncharted
RFoM
Rachet and Clank
F1 CE
Tekken
Hot Shots
MotorStorm
Time Crisis

Outstanding media center, excellent build qualty, integrated wireless, oh and the best blu-rayt player out there.

Get one !

I personally have never bought a DVD, and hardly even watch anything more than once, so Bluray doesn't do anything for me, not even that bothered about HD stuff.

I like gaming, both would do the job, albeit the 360 does it far better at the moment especially with live.

Also, the chances of getting a bad port from the 360 version is annoying, unless there's 5-10 awesome exclusives I don't about, I can't see me getting a PS3 any time soon.

Personally I would argue a few of those games ain't that great... I tried the motorstorm demo... and basically thought it was terrible... still, just my oppion.

/off topic. I think your sig is past the guidelines. 4 lines of text max, I believe for a text based signature.

*EDIT*

Oh, and as far as I can tell the OP has a 360 already... so its not if he should buy a 360 or PS3 (I GAME wise now would get the 360 - maybe in a few months it will be closer, if you want a media center and blu ray player, maybe a PS3 instead).

Its if the PS3 is worth buying now... short answer - yes (IMO). I do agree though, live pwns the PS3 online... though I do quite like the layout of the PSN store, despite the fact it is a little dry in content compared to lives.

This isn't a VS thing. PS3 does it. That can be said, without saying the 360 does too. ;) I mean maybe he wants his 360 turned off, Due to noise? But that's another debate entirely

I'm not saying the HD-DVD quality is any worse, Like i said, I'd pick one up if it was on offer. But no way would I buy one now at full price.

the noise is the main reason im getting a ps3 i like to watch films without what sounds like a vacum cleaner in the room :D.

and gt5 of course

If you've already got a 360, I'd say wait until MGS4 comes out at least. Or wait until they start bundling the DualShock 3 with the console. None of the games are going to self destruct and disappear anytime soon.

hmm, well i dont think ill bother then, Uncharted looks fun, but no AAA in my eyes, the standard controller is trulying horrible, dont even get me started on MGS, gamplay has always taken a back seat over the cut scenes.

Oh well, the idea of a silent well built console that also played HD films really did appeal to me, but im not willing to pay £300 for what would be just a Blu Ray player as theres no decent games out im interested in.

Ill hang back, surely it cant be that far off before the great games arrive

Fair enough, just out of interest what are these AAA games your refering too?

Not trying to start an arguement but but just asking for AAA titles is always going to be subjective and tbh imo AAA games are games which are creative and are offering gamers something new, as well as being additive which tbh there have been very very few so far in this generation of consoles.

The term decent is confusing, if by the definition of decent you mean average or playable games, then there are many. If he means it by way of the slang meaning of 'anything worth my time playing' as great games, there really is only Uncharted.

I'm sorry to go off topic here, but why on earth would anyone consider even contemplating owning a HD-DVD player right now? Even if its as cheap as chips ?

So you have an existing small library.... You have a piece of kit that you need to have readily available and plugged in so you can watch your small library...

No doubt you have some AV kit to attach it too also..

Seems like a lot of hassle for a format that will produce no more..

Unless you are an electronics collector then why bother? whatever the price...

Heavenly Sword is also great albeit a bit too short. You can get it now for £19.99 if you know where to look.

Fair enough the 360 is a bit noisy when it is in full swing running a game or dvd, but I have found that when I am just streaming media to it, through tversity or something, it makes hardly any noise at all. (I'm saying the ps3 is noiser or not I dont know lol just making a quick point)

Think I might just give it a few months see how many decent games arrive on the 360 scene and then purchase a PS3, might be another price drop by then, I can but hope...
