PS4. Again!

I wonder which will be first to market again though, the Xbox or PS4? I fear that may sway my decision more than the tech in the PS4. Also price will be a big one. Will we see a price increase over the previous launch prices given inflation and the economy?

Also if PSN is no longer free then that would be a big down side. I really want the PS4 to be epic, I have kept my PS3 longer than any other console.

I think this time both the new Xbox and PS4 will launch very close to each other as opposed to more than a year launch gap between Xbox 360 anf PS3 as this heavily affected sony. So they will makesure to have an early foothold in the market.

Since they are likely to continue with enhanced cell, I think the manufacturing cost will be much lower than PS3 costs. Certainly it won't be £400-£500 launch price otherwise sony will experience the same losses they did with PS3.
If PS4 launch price stays within £300-£350, then this will be very beneficial for both consumers and sony as it will allow sony to sell their consoles in greater numbers.

Ofcourse this also partly depends on how much the new Xbox is going to cost and whether they will continue to use existing Xenon cpu technology or go for a brand new processor.

We could see new Xbox actually being more expensive than PS4. Ofcourse this is my speculation. We just have to wait and see what happens.

As for PSN, again can't say anything at this point.

c) If its using an expanded version of the Cell which many assume it will then it'll be similar to coding for the PS3. Its not difficult, just different. Different enough to make it an issue for many developers 4-6 years ago. Now though there are so many people with Cell experience that it really shouldn't be an issue if the PS4 is using Cell at its heart.

The only problem with Cell is that some devs still don't optimise properly for Cell so we still get shoddy ports. Black Ops is one example of this and I believe Crysis 2 was inferior to the 360 version. Anybody that's played games like Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2/3 will know there is no excuse for this really.

I can't imagine gamers would be happy about being forced to pay potentially £50 or so for a hardware upgrade just to play the game. That the N64 was the last console to do it says everything; they charged extra for everything much like MS do now. I can see your point, and from a "PCs are upgradeable too" point of view it makes sense, but it just doesn't work where consoles are concerned.

Yeah and Sony give everything for free :p

They don't give stuff away but they do allow you to use universal add-ons like blue tooth headsets and 2.5" laptop hard drives. Whereas everything you buy for the 360 has to be made especially for it.

"P$4 - giving away your credit card details in full 1080p glory" :)

Talkign of which, has anyone seen an update from $ony (sorry, building on Icehots new and witty use of $ ;) ) on how they intend to help protect uk customers from ID fraud. The US customers (those most likely to launch a class action lawsuit) have a years monitoring and specilist assistance, so far as I can see for the rest of the world $ony is just hoping we all forget about it and go away.

To be frank, no matter how good the hardware for the next gen consoles I suspect it will be safe to assume they are fairly comparable. Online gaming, security and how you treat customers will be an important factor in making a decision and as it stands $ony aren't covering themselves in glory.

Any generic USB drive seems to work on my 360 :p

I think he's referring to the fact the internal HDD in the PS3 is completely user replaceable, unlike the Xbox 360 which needs its own caddy and flashed with custom firmware that is essentially cloning it from an existing drive, and is limited to the same sizes as the "official" M$ HDDs only.

Try using you own wireless headset, hard drive or wireless adaptor:p

Still you said everything, USB works as hard drive :)

360 does not have bluetooth so I fail to see how that is relevant really, my slim has wireless built in so I don't need to try my own thanks :p

I think its because some devs are still using the 360 as the lead platform and then porting. If they go the other way it seems to be a little easier to get a close match across the hardware. As I said before, with so many devs now having Cell experience it should make the whole process much easier if they keep using that chip in the PS4.

It's quite funny really as a number of devs have said it's much easier porting from the PS3 to the 360 yet other devs choose to completely ignore that. They then do it the hard way round and moan about the PS3 being hard to programme for
