they should have released 2 consoles, one which is a basic machine, and one with all the added guff imo.
I've seen this attitude before, in photography when they introduce video into DSLR.
Some photographers took this almost elitist opinion that it ruins the camera, that they don't want it or need it, it is not a feature they use and would some how think the camera would be cheaper (let's face it, its not cheap, it is a £2,000 body) if they had left out the video feature and even made your suggestion that they should make 2 different models. They got this idea that video should be in consumer compact cameras and stay there. That video had no place in a £2,000 camera and it somehow "cheapens" it for them, ruins it even.
That was about 5 years ago?
Time have moved on, those people don't say the same thing anymore, they realise that if you don't want to use it, don't press that button. It doesn't take away the capability of the rest of the camera. Then they also realise what video really can do in a DSLR with all the lenses that they had, when in the right hands, it produces amazing images and videos and it took off in a big way. It showed that in the right hands, for a lot of people, it is a great thing to have.
As for making it cheaper...it means having 2 production lines and would make the overall production cost higher which is not good for consumers.
I would say the same thing apply here. The additional stuff are software based, most of the hardware horsepower and made for games so I am not sure how much different 2 different model can be plus if you don't want those features, don't press those buttons on screen, it is really that simple. Moaning about it won't change a thing, it is the way the industry is going, you either get on board or be left behind.
