In fact x2 - I've not had ANY hard drive fail for about 10 years now. (Out of 10 internal 3.5", 2 external 3.5", 4 Xbox 360's, 2 PS3's)

My original ps3 hd failed. Also i'd say in our network of laptops, around 20% of hd's have failed over the last 5 yrs.
The non-upgradeable HDD is a genuine surprise, I guess they'll be going with USB 3.0 add-ons at a later stage then.
Either way, I don't think 500GB will go far with 50GB Blu ray discs (might they be 100GB discs these days?)

Hasn't been stated if the mandatory installs are complete game installs or just a small package of data.
Probably complete installs as they've mentioned you won't need the disk in the drive to play games after installation.
