PS4 and Xbox Rumours

From Major Nelson...

Xbox One and Used Games

We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.

Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

I really want a ONE, but if the specs are so wildly different it makes it difficult to choose either that or a ps4.

I know the games will be the same but there's just something in my head saying get a ps4.......

Ps4 for me. Ms have gone the gimmick way which not many people are interested in anymore. How many people who bought a kinect actually use it regularly? People went crazy over the gimmick of the wii for a while but I bet hardly anyone used it after buying one. Plus with all the restrictions on the xbox one such as not being able to borrow your mate a game you paid for without him paying a fee is just plain damn stupid.

It does seem very gimmicky what with all the kinect stuff and it is now required for the console, throw in all that TV stuff as well (I mean why would I want to snap browser whilst watching a film to check for cinema listings?

All I am interested in is gaming on it, I don't generally tend to trade many games in/lend them to friends so it's not a massive one for me about that, but I do have two sons who play on my 360, and I would like it clearly laid out how that is going to work on ONE.

I also want to know about what games are coming and how much this console is going to cost.

I will get both I imagine but if I had to choose one right now I would probably be leaning towards the PS4, MS really need to clear up the whole 2nd hand game situation.

I have no doubt they will clarify it all at E3. Not sure bit I think Sony conference is 1st so they will see what Sony say and then announce which of their 2 plans they go with.

I am sure they have 2 scenarios they can implement and as its all software they don't have to commit to either now.

From what I have read so far I reckon on a single console with the game installed any profile can play that game. If you login on another console you have to install data locally again and it disables your install in your primary console. Then when you sign in again at home it reenables your install and disables the one on your mates machine.

When you sell the game I think it works on your console until someone else activates the disk in their console and then it unlinks from your console and the new owner gets taken to live and is asked to pay a Fiver-tenner which goes straight to developers.

I would be OK with that sort of thing as it is similar to online passes etc.

Seeing as I don't have Virgin or Sky TV, and have no intention of ever paying the stupid money they charge for TV, the main feature that MS are touting with XB1 is entirely pointless for me, even ignoring the fact that it's not launching with that capability in the UK.

Graphics in the games they showed were very underwhelming, and so at the moment, I see no point in getting an XB1.

The PS4 didn't enamour itself to me greatly either, what with the for me utterly pointless "share" emphasis, seeing as I don't play online games and none of my friends play console games.

I'll stick to my 360 for another couple years at least. I've still got a huge back catalogue of excellent games to visit, and seeing that I only get to game maybe 2-4 hours a week, I can easily keep myself entertained for the next couple of years on existing content.

Confirmation that Sony has the faster RAM and also that about 3GB is being reserved for the OS (Current thoughts are that Sony is only reserving 1GB)

This would mean that there would be 5GB for games on the Xbox and 7GB for games on the PS4.

I just watched that but didnt get the same impression regards memory type and how its allocated, Marc Whitten seems to avoid answering it rather than confirm that. Im sure somewhere they have already said what RAM it comes with. If it is really DDR3, I really doubt ESRAM can reduce the near 50% loss in bandwidth, wont matter with launch games, but my, mature exclusives will look rather different...

What I did find interesting in that interview is that they dont seem to be bundling a headset this time as they expect Kinect to be the way to communicate to other people. Sounds cool but Id prefer the headset just so voice is on a different audio channel and not mixed into the game sounds...

I do think the new controller might end up being the best one ever made, love some of the touches in it...

I will wait until after E3 to make a better decision but I'm in no rush to buy either. Neither excites me. As I said 500gb is no way big enough to be an all in one box when you are installing blue ray games as well.

Why put a usb on the side? It makes it hard to access for a quick charge of a controller etc.

They are still not confirming the always on properly. Sentences with "should work" rather than definite answers.

Update: Sounds like things are a mess over at Microsoft. Now they're telling Polygon that Harrison's comments illustrate a "potential scenario."

"While Phil [Harrison] discussed many potential scenarios around games on Xbox One, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail," a Microsoft rep said. "There have been reports of a specific time period — those were discussions of potential scenarios, but we have not confirmed any details today, nor will we be."

Some people here thought the recessed side port might be for a similarly styled MS USB3 HDD that expands the storage. Dno why they havent even got a hidden front panel for ports (I havent seen one mentioned yet) for such necessary things. Its not tidy but you have to charge your controller. Id rather have one at the back and all the rest at the front...

Hmm Im watching the Architect panel and it seems that the resources used for Apps and then for Games are partitioned pretty hard and fast using HyperV, not sure if I like that as if Im not at all bothered about Apps it seems Ive lost resources from the off...
