Pugs New Cinema Build (Double Garage Conversion)

Ah, there was me thinking you'd done virtually all of it yourself!
Yeah that building stuff no way would I touch that simply because everyone of those changes was a load bearing wall, and for me, I'd prefer an expert to do that and good job with the hole in the wall for the stairs as that had massive beams running along the house, lose one of them the hallways was collasping lol. I'll stick to all the other stuff lol.

That's a brilliant looking room and will be a great space when finished!

Don't take this the wrong way though, but I wonder if the speakers, or at least certainly the subwoofer are a little bit lacking for such a big space? :)

Q acoustics have such wide sound fields. I'd love to hear/own the concept 500's. It's a shame they don't do a centre for that range.

No offence mate. I'm hoping so. The Tannoy and Mourdant Short system I have in the living room above fills the room surprsingly well and theyr'e nothing compared to this setup I've got now, so fingers crossed it does... I can always add a 2nd sub if not... but I reckon once the curtains, carpets, settees etc are in... don't think there will be any problems... however, we shall see as on Monday 30th, getting it all calibrated so, suire he may have something to say on the setup and poitn out all my mistakes lol.

So, finally the stairs finished this evening, foam sealed and also polystyrene in, just needs the tops securing on now but that's a 2 minute job. Now need to start on the walls and getting all the plasterboard up this week ASAP... as need to get the plasterer in next week. Time is flying now and I;'ve got the carpet fitter coming in at the end of the month and still no windows in lol.

Starting to at least now look like a room and all this plasterboarding and cupboards... ohh yeah, I'm boxing off the electrics in the corner for easy access as well... all of that shall be done in the next couple of days... as the plasterer is coming in next weekend to plaster everything up... a lot to do in the next 6 days now... but it's coming together... better had be as the carpets being fitted Friday 27th lol

Ok so, busy day today....
  1. Cleaned the Sony PJ out and ensured no dust in the side vents. Gave it some TLC as it's been on the ceiling in the main living room for over 3 years now. Now like new again.
  2. Changed the Sony Lamp out for a brand new one (Sony) and will use this 1900 hour lamp as a spare. Always wanted to have a spare for emergencies and now was the time primarily in that if this calibrator does come on Monday 30th, then I want to have a PJ that's as bright as possible to get the best calibration so thought I'd time it at the same time.
  3. I'll be having a 2 port USB hub in the wall connected through to the main computer room in another part of the house for playing the PC on the projector and also running wireless headphones/mice/ketboards etc. However they're white, so took it apart and sprayed matt black, perfect.
  4. We then ran all the USB wires and HDMI from the computer room and routed into the new Cinema room, once again so I can control the main PC for gaming, films etc etc.
  5. Plastered around the windows and door and also around one side of the main archway near the stairs which was a pain and the inside of the stairs... so making solid progress this weekend.

Small update for tonight... building the frame and surround for the boiler which will NOT be moving. So, we've looked at the regs, nothing to stop this... however it needs to be kept ventilating and the extraction is still going outside so we're all good. Ultimatly there will be lourve doors that will easily be detatchable for servicing and replacement/fixing etc.... so, here we go...

Latecomer to the thread but have loved reading it so far and looking forward to your next posts. We only use our living room for tv/films so very tempted to turn it into a home cinema room.

For the boiler I'd be tempted to fit a carbon monoxide detector above it just in case.

Cheers man, yeah it's taking a little longer than I wanted but getting there, this whole room needs to be ready for Monday as the plasterers are coming in, so that will transform it... as for the carbon yeah I have one, but agreed will be screwing it to the wall to make sure all is safe. I have one of these.

OK, so, new update as of yesterday nearly there now with the plasterboarding, the boxing took a while and slight columns we've built on the main staircase entry... we didn't feel it would be right being flush, so we've made them both stand out a little more now. Finished off my display piece which is where my Terminator Head will be displayed and loads more so... here are some more piccies! Also, the louvre doors arrived as well that will be used to hang off the frames of the "boiler" and the "electrical/gas" boxes...

  3. Monday and Tuesday the plasterers are coming and all the room will be fully plastered and smoothed by by close of play Tuesday 24th. Get the heating on and windows open lol
  4. Thursday 26th morning at 8:30am, the french doors will be fitted in both garage door openings.
  5. Friday 27th the carpet fitters are coming to lay the new underlay and carpet.
  6. Saturday & Sunday 28th/29th if the plaster is dry I'll be painting the whole room.
Then we're into right, this is where the high goes in and the exciting bits... so to any followers, nearly there now... fingers crossed the above plan goes to... errr... plan lol

Nice one Pug, just found this thread, great work going on!
What will be your first movie?
Now there is a million dollar question man... so officially, because my mate is working hard on this... we're having a family one, and it'll be Raiders of the lost ark... however, before the "opening night", I'll be having my own... and it's possibly Bladerunner 4k? Not sure... it's a tough one man, you had to ask didn't you lol
