Put off by ATI ?

I've had issues on and off with both camps. In fact i can remember with my gtx260 having to use the same drivers for over 8 months as all newer releases from Nvidia had problems which I couldn;t live with. There were quite a few of us on here using 182 drivers for ages as they were the best/bug freeist.

Ive had some major Nvidia problems over the last year or so too, and I currently dont dare to update again now.

Over the last 2.5 years I would say it been about even on the driver front when all things are considered.

only when i had 3870 in crossfire i had lots of trouble , from then on i never used the crossfire or sli and all problems was resolved.

how ever i prefer ati/amd cards then nvidia.

waiting for 6*** series to change 260 soc

so in short answer if u want less hassle use single card

ive given up with ATI drivers. No matter what model ive tried.

4850 4850X2 and 4870 they simply dont work with my secondary screen. (Toshiba 32" HDTV)

Nvidia cards have always worked for me

I've always updated my drivers every month and have NEVER had any problems with my 4870 (same with when I had an nvidia card). To me, driver problems usually (not always) seem to be user error

I have had a 4850/4870/5850 and never had any driver problems at all. Just install over the top of the previous one and it just works. This 5850 overclocks like a demon too.

Before these i had 6800GT/ SLI 7800GT / 8800Gt and never had any driver problems with those either.

Had both Nvidia and ATI, and the only thing that really put me off Nvidia was their absolutely terrible Image Quality....

I went from a Radeon 9800pro to Nvidia 6800GT, and really couldnt believe how much worse games looked, their Anti Alaising and Ansiotropic filtering was abysmal in comparison to ATI, and as soon as the X850XT PE was cheap enough i changed....

Now, however, Nvidia left behind IQ problems with the 88xx range of cards, and so i've decided when i do change my 4850, i will go back to Nvidia, just for a change really....

I have had both really recently. I used to have a 5970 and chopped it in for 480's in SLI. For me personally SLI seems to run smoother, things are definately more stuttery with the 5970. Both side do have driver issues though! I guess that's the normal evolution of things!

Not had driver issues for a good few years from either camp. What I don't understand is why people blame Ati or Nvidia when they have a problem. They have an almost impossible task to get it right for all the different setups. I had CF5770 and had no problems whatsoever with several driver sets and yet 'Joe Bloggs' has had nothing but hassle with an almost identical setup. Why?. I dont know and I dont think Ati or Nvidia know either. Sure, occasionally there's an obvious error and those are generally fixed very quickly. Personally its my opinion that most 'driver errors' are in fact user errors and that too much is expected from both Ati and Nvidia to be able to fix all these errors with driver updates.:)

I now have a single 5850 on 10.4, since release, have not even tried any other sets since and have had no problems.

never had any issues here with any cards. but i got to say the ati's drivers because they have a great driver team are a lot more relyable id say.

iv had

ati:
x850xt
hd2900xt
hd4870x2 (current card)

nvidia:
5200
5500fx
6600gt
6600gtx
7800gtx

got to say the card i liked the most out of them all not due to performance or anything like that, but because of the relyability, and quietness, and liest hastle, i just stuck it in, update drivers monthly, never had problems my 4870x2

I've had no real issues to speak of with either tbh ...I have had the odd driver issue, I'd say probably more with Nvidia than ATI though but that's most likely because I have had 3 times as many Nvidia cards as I have had ATI. The only card I have ever had actually fail on me was an Nvidia Geforce TI4200 ...again though, you can't really read much into this as I have had 6 Nvidia cards, 2 ATI cards and 3 3DFX cards over the years ...so statistically Nvidia will come out with the most problems by virtue of the fact I have had many more than I have ATI.

These are just my primary gaming cards mentioned above though, I have had others, much lower powered onboard cards or laptop ones that I'm not counting, I've never had a problem with any of those though but the I don't make the same demands of them.

I don't change drivers for the sake of it though, I only do so if I have a reason to do so, or when I am doing a fresh install ...I will install the latest drivers then, unless there are some known issues that will affect me anyway.

First and foremost, personaly, i can not remember having a very bad experience with actualy uninstalling or installing any new or older driver sets with my radeon cards, it's just that in my experiences with newer releases of catalyst software and drivers, the driver teams often fix some previous issues but at the same time introduce a new issue. I now realise that a new set of catalyst drivers does not necessarily improve gaming with regards to frame rates and stability even if they claim the drivers do. In my personal experiences ccc 10.6 - 10.7 and 10.8 and the profiles hamper my gaming results, and broke my scaling :D

I haven't had any issues and have always updated to the latest drivers as they're released. There's room for improvement but not enough to make me consider switching.
