Q6600 Cooling

To give you an idea of cooler performance on a Q6600 the following is taken from a spreedsheet I have that details all the 8 hour primestable clocks on Q6600 here and on the XS forums:

thing to remember with a TRUE is that it has very dense fins.. so you need a high static pressure fan in single configuration or two fans in push-pull to make sure that you pull airflow through the cooler.. The fin density does mean it will allow those extra 200/300mhz over something like a tuniq for example.

if you are aiming for 3.4ghz or so there is no point in getting a TRUE as other "low end coolers" will allow this sort of clock for less cost.. 3.4ghz - 3.6ghz generally needs something like a Tuniq... 3.6ghz+ is where the TRUE comes into its element.. And I think I should clarify when I am talking about "3.4ghz" I mean primestable at those clocks.. anyone can boot at 4ghz on the stock cooler :) as long as the rig is under low amounts of load

My Tuniq is coping admirably with my 6600 at 3.8ghz. I must admit I have been lucky though, it was doing 3.6 without me even touching the voltage.

my Q6600+ACF7 idles at 30-28-28-27 running 1.4vcore and around 24C on stock vcore. Gets a bit toastier when all cores are spun up at 100% tho...

Didnt want to bump an old post but as i've only just noticed it and this is my old chip i thought i would help.

Them temps are definately down to the cooler, i remember saying when you bought it you would struggle doing 3.2ghz with an ac7 as to be honest, there cheap for a reason and not very good on a quad, heck my temps were a lot lower than that when running 4ghz :p

I can get mine to 49-49-44-44 ono at 100% p95 load, using a TRUE and 2x 2000 rpm fans. Opening all the windows and letting a bit of nice cold air in helps, only problem is it gets to cold for me:D

am not saying that CPU wont do 4ghz... just not primestable @ 1.45v or at reasonable temps with an AC7

You missed my point mate, i doubt it would do 3.2ghz with a AC7, was just showing what it does do with decent cooling :p

Like i said, i ran 2 hours of prime at 4ghz 1.5v and it only got to 50C ;)

Im the new owner of this chip from craigius.
Im hoping not to have to spend 46quid odd on a true as i already have exceptional case cooling in a thermaltake kandalf super tower and right now have my 8800gtx cards @ 42c and 49c and an E6600 clocked @ 3.5 with 1.5v going through it, high i know but each core right now idle at 24c,23c and
42c,38c at load. cooled with ac7 and as5 paste. Hoping to get this q6600 to 3.5 without much trouble as its also now lapped. Also got noctua nc6 and evercool on my chipset also at 44c, 43c:D

The Kandalf also has a huge 25cm fan blowing directly on to the cpu/ram area also so that helps.

Hi mate i dont think you will have a lot of problem with it could you post a pic of your current set up......

I think you'll struggle over 3.2 with that cooling, personally i would also use MX2 as that dropped a few C for me.
Heres some of my temps to show you what it can do, just consider i have a MM ufo with 10x 120mm yate loons and a high end water rig (PA120.3)

3.6 (before lapping with AS5)

After lapping with MX2 (All fans on full lol)
