Q6600 Cooling

Hi mate i bought this chip off tatts......

Nice set up there, looks like there is plenty of air flow.

Cheers mate, never posted any rig picks before:)
Looks awesome at night:D

Thanks for the heads up TATTS that should save me some time.
If i have to end up getting a True or something so be it but for the sake of a few hndred mhz i will have to see.

:Heres some more pics without the flash this time lol.
Especially for Craigius:D

Had an idea from another forum about improving my arctic freezer 7 for q6600 overclock. This involves mounting another 92mm fan the other side of the heatsink. Sounds to me like it could work making it more like the TRUE on the first page. Anyone?

Get a TRUE and stick 2x2000 rpm fans on it, the arctic freezer is an ok cooler upto about 3.2-3.3ghz if you wanna clock higher the TRUE is a good choice. btw nice case mate:)

Before I o/c my q6600 my cores were like 20's - 30's with arctic freezer pro 7. The highest I've pushed it is about 3.3 and even then the highest I've seen under load is about high 40's. I'm quite happy atm with this cooler.

Currently priming my q6600 @3.8ghz, cooled by a TRUE with 2x2000 rpm sharkoon fans, load temps of 67-67-60-60. Both the cpu and cooler lapped, most i could ever get with the freezer was 3.4ghz but even then my temps had went into the high 70's.

What is VID of your chip, The one craigius has sold me is 1.23 and lapped also. Just have to wait and see what happens;)

Its a 1.2750 vid chip mate, ive ran it for a while @3.6ghz on 1.400 vcore, decided today to push it a bit further, almost 1 hour into a (hopefully 8 hours+) prime 95 run at 3.8ghz. Had to fiddle about with the chipset voltages and memory timings but all is looking good so far.:) A1.23 vid chip sounds like a nice one, will be interesting to see how you get on with it.

Cheers mate, will be nice if it does, the only problem is that to help with cooling ive opened all the windows in the room, and its absolutely freezing, that coupled with a slight hangover certainly aint nice:D

Wouldnt it be better to do it a room temp though? Will make a differnce once you have the heating on. And it is cold today:(

Or just going on a bench test run??
Heating is on as well, im just pushing to 3.8 for a one off run, just to see if the chip was capable of it, have shut the windows and it hasnt changed the temps at all. If i can get it stable at this speed ill be quite happy, then knock it back to 3ghz for daily use, i may be selling this cpu soon and either going for an e8600 or a q9550.

Ok, started clocking this chip @ 3.5 with my ac7. had to mess around with the volts a bit to accomidate my 680i`s massive vdroop. CPUZ right now says 1.376.Got the fsb at bout 1504 i think unlinked. tryed a quick orthos run for 10 mins and temps were just below the 60s not that it will ever be under that sort of strain. However ive had a few lock up freezes seemed to happen more frequently as i raised the chipset voltages. Seems happy now sat at 3275.3 mhz. The former owner of this chip TATTS seemed to think it would be happy to do 3.6 @ 1.35v but maybe i will need a bit more for my 680i A1 not exactly the best quad clocker apparently;)

Most nvidia chipsets are poor clocking quads hence why i've always avoided them. If more chipset voltage makes it crash more id hazard a guess that the NB is either overheating or the board cant take much stick :(

Not sure if i have any stable screenshots left, they were in my original fs thread if its still on here.

I ran it at 3.6 ~1.35V (1.3V in windows) on my old P35 DS4 for around 6months and the same settings on my maximus formula for a few months without any problems.

What psu do you have out of interest?
