Quite a lot of car issues this session: Norris, Stroll, and Lewis all retiring. Max strong out of the box but they'll be dialling the cars in for a while yet, so that could change. Looks like it's really hard to get out of the way of faster cars in quite long sections of this track, Qualifying is going to be carnage with cars blocking each other and I expect backmarkers will cause bigger problems than usual in the race.

Tuned into prac for the last 10 they are running that livery so also have the flag on

Oh, okay, I couldn't see it on Norris' car, guess it was just the wrong angle. Good stuff.

I suppose if they think new engine or not they’ll get second here but can get first at the other 2 races with fresher engines the makes the most sense to take it here.

I half expected Stroll to at least match Vettel this year but I think he's been shown up as the fairly average driver that he is

Once Vettel got up to speed with the AM which took longer than expected it was only going to go one way really. Same with Alonso on Ocon, and I expect if Dani Ric gets on well with the new car he'll be beating Noris too though I can't imagine by much.

MERC REQUEST DENIED !

Watching Totto and Christian interviewing together in the press conference now on Sky is tense. Christian has completely baited Totto and deliberately put some subtle but harsh comments in. Totto more reserved and diplomatic.
Christian hard to listen to. They were told live in the interview the outcome.

I'd expect smaller teams to kick up a fuss if Merc just starts taking new engine every race, iirc they already used more engines than any other team. Not only it's unfair to teams that don't have the budget to do so but it makes a mockery of a rule that's there to keep the costs down and to prevent this sort of thing.

As an engine supplier it also doesn't look great as it shows that you have no confidence in your own product so they need to weigh up whether a driver championship it's worth potentially loosing customers, especially with the talk of Audi and Porsche potentially coming in soon. I think they're in a good place to win the constructors championship regardless of who wins the drivers one.

Had it on in the background - didn't realise it was live - turned up now!

Christian to Totto: "so how do you explain the score marks on the rear wing end plate"
Totto basically replied saying within spec. I didn't quite catch it.
Christian has basically said in a roundabout way that if Merc are again quick this weekend, they will probably ask the FIA to look at the rear wing. Totto saying that they have had 14 times a look at the rear wing already and they are happy to provide all details.

EDIT: Sky apologising for the language used. Probably because Christian said "I don't lick his arse" when quizzed about the relationship between Merc and Redbull.

It’s legal, no one will care, except RB.

It won’t be a concern, they’ll have the engine sorted over the winter.

Is there actually any basis for sky being offended by such words, are they really as out of touch as that.

Depends how you look at it, there's a penalty for it so wouldn't say it's legal but it is allowed. They don't really have much to gain from Lewis winning the driver's championship so Merc might want to consider the bigger picture and see if potentially upsetting their customers it's worth it. Though I'm sure they'll take new engines with both Lewis and Valtteri if that's what's needed to win the constructor championship.
