that chart confirms exactly what i wrote and the link i gave you thx ;)

and i was refering to this you posted "Fact is its too close for me, and if I did set to 720p it would look like non HD from far back lol." as i said 9 feet is right for 720p and u saying thats to far back it aint.

No, Im saying, I do my own thing, not what anyone else tells me, I just wont sit that close to a TV in a large room, suppose a lot has to do with users vision also.

They are guides not set in concrete for everyone, I wont be 15feet back when watching HD.

anyway thx for the chart i have saved that for when i get a hd screen but i am waiting for sed screens to hit our shores, ok back on topic me thinks.

Just do whatever you are happy with. If you need a graph, then clearly you can't tell the difference*

:D

well yes i am saying that as a 6800gs is the same as a 8800 in dx9, its just that a 8800 can run at higest settings and better fps thats it, look wise the same for game, 2K the developers quoted "General rule of thumb appears to be: PC graphics at medium settings = X360 graphics when it comes to Bioshock's graphics. Your PC will provide "better" graphics than the 360 version" put it this way 6800gs and 8800 card running bioshock both on mediumn settings they would be exactly the same looking but thats ovious.

and yes i said xbox version looks nice also but i just prefer the pc looks.

How is a 6800GS on medium settings = 360 graphics ? Your comparing a 12 pipe card to a 48 pipe card with unified shaders, not to mention a more modern core with a lot more tech in it, which in turn is also built into a fixed platform. There is a lot more difference to a core design then just increasing the clock speed. a 8800 isn't a 6800 with more pipes, memory and speed. It has improved Image quality AA and AF as well as many other things. Thats almost like saying a Radeon 8500 will look the same as a 1900XT-X running direct x 8.1 because it wont.

I've been thinking about this today. Surely it's the fun factor that matters, which is going to be different for everyone? Why are we soooo hooked on graphics these days, leading to pants stories and short games?

im beginning to think like you also, i admit im a graphics whore but then on the other hand i still enjoy playing quake 3, team fortress classic and il2 all 6 year old + games, and i have a lot of the latest games and still go back to playing the old stuff.

i prefer my 360 for a specific reason, i dont have to sit at my computer to play it.

i dont care about spec, that sold it for me.

I don't have to sit at my desk to play on my PC. :o

me either i sit on a 2 seater sofa in my living room with my 22" monitor 3 foot from my face, keyboard on my lap and mouse on sofa next to me

my mrs sits other end of living room facing the other way watching tv so shes happy watching holyoaks etc :D

imho 360's are for skint students and kids that are too skint/lazy to afford a top gaming rig, and cba to tweek a pc for best results

as were seeing now pc's deffinately have the edge with bioshock the first proper example and obviously only the begining of things to come

What tosh.

The main problem the pc faces is the number of decent games that appear for the platform - a far cry from how things used to be, there is a distinct lack of quality. With consoles, on the other hand, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to innovation, creativity, challenge, variety ....

LOL!!! care to name some examples for all of them? all of the good games on consoles this year all have been better on pc, so will cod4 and crysis

thing with consoles is the price of games for me.

Why pay top price when you can get them cheaper for the PC.

Also you only need to really upgrade every 3-4 years to keep upto date with the PC and it usually only cost around 300 quid to do so, and you can still play all present and future titles. I'd love to have an Xbox360 but still can't justify the price of it or it's games, and having to pay to play.

yep i just sold my xbox 360 for £299

had a lot of things, but for £39 at a time for a game, is too much considering i get the same game on pc for £17.99 not only that... i use the pc way more than 360.

(only had it for a month...) but was best to sell it.

The problem for many being that so few games are released on the pc in fullstop. The majority of the games I want don't see the light on the pc, some appear late as (often sloppy) ports, and it also has very few decent exclusives.

I've no hidden agenda here btw - having long been a keen pc gamer - but have become quite jaded in recent years.

I think we're in the realm of differing tastes. Of all the great games on the horizon, those two don't even feature in my top 20. Mass Effect, Metroid Prime Corruption, MGS4, Mario Galaxies, Halo 3 (if only for online 4-player co-op), Resident Evil 5, Little Big Planet, DMC4, GTA IV, FF13 and whatever the Ico team come up with next, are top of the list. A couple of these will probably arrive on the pc, but likely as an after thought, months/years later.

To answer your question - i've been playing a lot of Wii with friends and family (Wii Sports/Play, Big Brain Academy, Wario Ware) and a fair bit on my own (Elebits, Mercury Meltdown, RE4, Kororinpa, Zelda). The 360 is on often - Gears online, old arcade games (Track and Field is a laugh), Bioshock, Dead Rising, various racing/sports games - and the DS rarely gets put down. I'd even give the aging PS2 the edge of the pc at the moment - Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, God of War 2, Katamari Damacy and after pub PES sessions.

It could be that i'm just bored of hunching over a desk and playing on my own. Then again, if you compare pc gaming today to what we had in the mid 80s and 90s, it's obvious how far it's fallen. The great exclusives simply aren't there any more and we get left with mmos (great if you like that kind of thing) and ports of about 30% of the decent console games.
