Catch the Chicken![]()
I played for 30 minutes without realising on MP Finca CTF. I think games have become worse as graphics has become better. After 2 minutes I forgot I was playing in 1600x1200 on a 2560x1440 monitor and had low settings too.
Level design, simplicity and general fun is what games should always be about. Not just graphics
I never really played quake 2, more of a doom 2 / q1 gamer, then went onto delta force adn unreal tournament.
What happened to these style of games? Why did the COD's et al take over??
As someone else has mentioned - games are all about clean kill graphics, xp and buying ****.. Quake you needed skill to get to certain items and the tactics were more profound than anything else.
Indeed. Newer games are more complex generally, but this has the adverse affect of skill being a smaller variable in the equation. Quake et al were easy to pick up, but incredibly difficult to master. The same can't be said of the modern FPS, where it's far more about learning the game/weapons etc and reaching your skill ceiling really quite quickly. I think Counterstrike was quite a nice middle-ground though in this respect

Thats true regarding CS - i've not played much of that in donkeys - GO was ok but just new skins. I wonder if there will ever be a new HL3 and therefore a new cs?!
CS was where gaming tactics actually started to mean something to me and started to play with a headset - unreal etc were all just fun and never played them competitively.
This is why I like Natural Selection 2.
No sign of an XP bar / unlocks / achievements just straight up gameplay.
Someone put a thread on the NS forums saying the game needed this to keep people interested, needless to say he got ripped to shreds.
Who plays a game for that crap? the gameplay should keep you hooked if you find it fun, the above make it a chore.
Am feeling very old now

Awesome game!
Loved dueling into the early hours on Wireplay / Barrysworld on dialup, then moving onto ISDN with my Asuscom adapter, giving glorious sub 50 pings
