Quake 4

Picked up Quake 4 for £10. Its imppressive but whoever thinks it even competes along the like of HL2 is not from this planet. Reasons:

- The gameplay is as linear as it gets. Green door on metal light, go through, red light on metal door, go find another metal door. That is it, just navigate through the ****** doors
- There are no puzzles to even scratch you intellect
- Your guided throughout the game and told "press jump to exit" etc etc
- All the surroundings are the same metal after rock after metal after rock.... -
- There is little or no physics involved with objects.
- Strogs always come out from infornt of you and clearly make there presence known by making some stupid sound
- The caracters mouths move like they're puppets, no emotion or facial expressions. And they are completely static, just don't turn around to face where you are. And is it just me but there are 3 characters, black, white and asian!
- The multiplayer appeal has died down and servers are non existant, compare that to UT2004

I can't fault the Doom 3 engine though. The game does look fantastic. The weapon models are great and sound fantastic.

Roll on UT2007!

EDIT: i remeber on quake 3 they used to be rail servers 1v1 and u had to wait your turn to play the winner of that round, can u do that on quake 4 aswell? it was a space map aswell.

Q3DM17 rail servers - good for rail practise...

Find one in Q4 and grab me, should be a converted map by now - my rail sucks comparatively...

One thing I can still hold my own at is railing, though I wasn't getting the best points for teamplay, I sure was railing my arse off last night :p one point I had a fight with 2 guys, one had that health booster, I got 6 rails in succession on the two of them, I was happy :p

I like the Quake4 version of DM17, feels pretty much the same as it does on quake 4, though I prefer closer quarters, railing, as it can get mental with the amount of split second 180degree flicks you have to keep doing.
 
Anyone fancy a CTF game tonight? Should be on later - gonna play some GTA: SA MP first...

Just find me under p01yn0mi41 or xfire (ps3ud0) - probably be on the Powerbladders Arena CTF server...

Damn looks like Q4 might have me again :p

I was on that server last night at about 12:10am didnt see u tho. Your lucky as i was on fire!!........nah i wasnt im kidding myself really :(

Ended up playing some MTA in the end - glad to see youre enjoying it, just takes time to get good - playing better players help a lot. I should always be around for a quick match - just grab me ;)

Yeah Ive seen you around mate a few times - though I doubt you really hang around on the public servers, Ive seen you play ;). Im sure the last time I saw you you were tagged?...

Hopefully Ill play you soon, really need v good players to play against to get better - do you normally play pickup or something? Really should get mirc reinstalled...

yeah i am clanned. I do attack for AcK. I haven't ventured onto publics since the first few weeks of Q4. I used to do a fair bit of pickups when i stopped publics, but pickups is dead now. Have the clanbase semi-final vs FOE this week. I hope the next patch makes some significant changes to the game, so that hoepfully the game will develop popularity.

From what I remember your just a bit short :p.

Ahh see for some reason I thought you were playing for mHs just like your SS, but AcK does sound familiar - used to see those guys round but the public scene has died out big time (well theres a lack of skill and teamplay IMO), which is majorily killing the game.

I really CBA to join a clan just to get some decent games and so like you praying for a patch to bring it in line with Q3A. Oh where are the OSP/3W/CPMA guys :p...

You must send me some of your demos from your clan matches :)

I was thinking more like 10pm? We'll play on a vanilla server - any preferences on gametype or is CTF/Arena CTF ok with you? Obviously make sure you have the Quakemas pack installed in case...

I really dont mind myself - the powerbladders server Im on quite a bit is usually busy so can be a manic laugh. If you want something more quieter or less busy please just post a suitable server :)

If thats 1.2PR you should be fine as the maps are included within it...

EDIT: Unsure if Ill be able to make it after 10pm :( - though Im around now until then - probably be somewhere - look for my q4 name...
