Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

No, they haven't. No-one has had a hospital appoint for a life threatening illness cancelled. They've cancelled stuff they wouldn't ordinarily do on a bank holiday, on account of - you know - it being a bank holiday; but the NHS runs all critical care on a bank holiday too.

It's an important event; but I don't think it's a seismic one. Things will continue much as before.

The hysteria over not being able to do X on one day is extraordinary.

Critical care, yes, obviously. But they are still cancelling appointments that people have waited for ages for. Do you know how ridiculously long some NHS waiting lists are?

How is it poor taste? IF you want the day off then fine, if you arent bothered about watching it come in t work and have a days holiday to use when you want.

Its important to you...not to everyone.

I said exactly why it's poor taste

Sounds very poor taste, here, have another day off but not the important one.

I think it's a small miracle that so many businesses that normally shaft their employees when it comes to BH are giving the majority of their staff the chance to take part in said BH.

The normal state of affairs for a BH is for many businesses to close their doors. The only difference this time is that a lot more businesses that normally don't, want this one off.

So, if you understand it's much more significant than a usual BH the idea of having those particular workers swallow the inconvenience yet again is where the poor taste comes in.

The post I replied to was quite specific about making those workers work though that particular day and have a different day off.

I wonder how many businesses are shutting and not paying their employees though… I suspect there’ll be quite a few and nothing the workers can do about it if they aren’t getting paid.

I'm paying all my staff full pay for being off Monday, anyone on the night shift will still need to work their shift so will get a day in lieu holiday.

Pretty short-sighted of the staff tbh. It's like being a Lotus Notes developer and then being baffled you've got fired when they don't use Lotus Notes anymore.

Timing though. Perhaps somebody wouild have thought it best to leave it until the next day and not issue the redundancy notices during the Queen's service????

I am tempted to go down to see her lying in state... Just don't think I can justify the potentially huge wait to myself, along with a long, expensive, and no doubt busy journey down.

Can imagine that it will feel like a very meaningful visit for those that go though, and certainly a memorable way to show respect & take part in a historic event.

They are estimating a 30 hour wait to see her so if you arrived now, it would be 6.30pm tomorrow night!!!!

That is what is happening where I work - unfortunately I'm on the evening/night shift so will have to work/get a day in lieu.
