Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

I'm no royalist but I watched the whole thing from start to finish with my wife (who's Polish so finds the whole thing rather bizarre). I tried to get my 8-year-old to watch but I think after an hour he'd had enough, so I sent him off to play with his Lego.

And that is how you do a funeral.

Personally I don't care if I'm left to rot in a forest, but have thought about stipulating that I be buried lying on a pair of albatross wings, purely for shiggles. Just a shame I won't be around to see the face of the archaeologist who unearths my skeleton.

Everyone here has the opportunity to be an equal
I wish I'd known I had the opportunity to apply to be King :(

The funny part is he will grow up and say you should have forced me to watch it as it was historical and wish I remembered it. I felt sorry for the kids threw the whole day watching them with their parents and even the royal families kids that were part of it. Sadly with most being so young they don't understand it and never really knew her in any way apart from something Disney sells to them as Queens, princesses etc.

One thing I am really happy about even on such a sad day, is her life is there all on video to be seen from the start to end and anyone even interested later in the future can watch it all and get to understand her.

The procession to the Abbey was amazing I thought. Just to moving. I think the whole mourning period has been a fitting send off for the late Queen.

Regarding kids, we sat as a family and watched the morning / early afternoon. I said to my son, you’ll thank me in years to come for watching this, cause you’ll never see the like again.

Why does going to McD make them sad? If they’re hungry and it’s somewhere to get food, why would you have an issue with them going there.

I’m hungry, if there was a BK near me, I’d be on my way.
Some people don’t plan. They buy food daily. As the supermarkets were closed today (Sainsburys Locals, Tesco Expresses etc were opening from 5pm) there are better choices than awful McDs

Curious what Spain will do when Juan Carlos dies. His behaviour doesn’t warrant him a state funeral plus the population resent him and his daughters.

For those who don’t know, Juan Carlos is in exile in Dubai. His daughters flew to see him when the country and much of the world was in lockdown. Couldn’t invite family into your home but ok for two princesses to fly thousands of miles to see their father

If anything, the Queens passing has proven no matter what your background is, when the time comes, as a nation we all come together.
I'm mostly neutral about the monarchy, but this whole period has opened my eyes to how important/useful they are in fostering a sense of patriotism in the country. And I do believe that a country needs an amount of patriotism.
