Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Glad to read that the Queen's bees have been informed of her death.

I'm wondering if someone has told the ravens at The Tower or if the swans have received official notification yet. The sturgeons will be tricky, dolphins also, although we might get more sense out of them.

The problem I have is that it's existence perpetuates the idea of classism. They are humans where their ancestors accumulated enough power to exert control over people. Saying that, I think they have had a positive impact on some things. For me ideally in the future they would just become a tourist attraction.

To be fair I think they pretty much are, and they know it. I'm not a royalist, but I like the idea of having the representatives of the country who aren't politically aligned or have any particular agenda apart from being those who are the face of the country in state matters. I find the idea of bloodlines and inheritance of titles awful though, and something that should be consigned to the dark ages - ideally these representatives should be elected by the people, but I honestly don't think this will change any time in the near future.

In the mean time, I think the royals are trying to make themselves as relevant as possible because they know times have changed (I'm thinking William and Harry's generation) and they can't just sit around. They both did military service which I appreciate, and I hope their kids are brought up the same way that they shouldn't take their lives for granted. I wont' go into the Harry/Megan thing here, that's a whole different subject.

In summary - it's not the way I'd like things, but it's what we have and I think they're trying to change to keep up with the times, and in the grand scheme of things it really isn't a big issue in the country at the moment.

Perfection don't exist my friend, the sooner people can understand this, the more they will fit in with the original feeling of being human again like they did when they were much much younger.
It is a balance of responsibility and reflection, sometimes we must make tough decisions.

Let's be fair here, many of us would not have the more comfortable lives we have if it were not for them being so readily able to be criticized. One loses the ability to cloak their selves when you are in such a position.

I think she was a very graceful woman, I understood her role and she stands as one of the most stoic, trustworthy and solid individuals going, not many have that kind of enduring power.

Something very lacking in todays world since the ego is freely able to run mockingly in the ignorance of comfort.

I’m a massive royalist and always will be but I do understand where you’re coming from and do concede that it could be a Conversation to be had in the future. IF and it’s a big IF, the monarchy starts to cost the country more money than it generates and puts back into the economy, I can understand the call for it to be phased out, but currently the monarchy does far more good for this country and puts far more into the economy than it takes out.

I honestly don't get why people are so up in arms about it - it's an internet forum, if it being down for 24 hours bothers you that much you might have bigger isues to be worried about...

It meant I had to actually talk to my partner and child when I could've been talking to my internet friends! Sort your priorities out!

On the flip side of that argument is its an internet forum where not everyone gives a **** about subject x but is really interested in discussing subject y.

The entire forum is not held for a ransom.
The forum is also ran by other humans, ones without.. we would have no forum to begin with, at least have some respect, it can't always be me first.

Imagine if you had stuff to sell on Market Place here and boom, website down for 24hours whilst in a transaction process with someone?

Well just be patient I say, did we never make preparations if the site wanders offline before? Or just wait to pin the lack of self discipline and planning on some unfortunate event instead?

I just personally think it's daft putting a random family on a pedestal.

But they're not a random family. They're a family of aristocrats with a genealogy that goes all the way back to the Tudors. A family which has literally shaped the history of Britain, Wales, Scotland and Ireland for more than 500 years.

They weren't just arbitrarily shoved into Buckingham Palace. They gained and held their position by fighting off all challengers—both foreign and domestic—over many centuries. There's nothing random about the Royals and their role in British society. That's like saying the Romanovs were just a random family.

assuming you've agreed the deal on the forums then contact details should have been exchanged.

If there was no deal in place, again 24 hours loss is no loss.

So, no - no real problem losing 24 hours.

But anyways, we are going off topic - further discussion down this route will be deleted.

not a royalist but not against them as they I think are a net positive to the country

was surprised when the forums went offline but don't really care.either way. ocuks house therefore ocuks rules.

more fed up with bbc1 being over run as technically I do pay for that. it's not that I don't want that stuff on, just that with a 24 hr news channel and stuff like the red button they could show all that stuff without replacing the normal TV schedule.

I guess I can see where people who are not interested in football are coming from in the world cup now!
