Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

I take it everyone that’s whinging about the current situation is forgoing the bank holiday on Monday or if they have to work not talking any additional pay which is normally attached to working a bank holiday

I'm not whinging but I will be working as I'm travelling (by plane) and I won't get any compensation for working. Nor do I care.

I'd have happily taken an extra day bank holiday though. My loss unfortunately in this instance.

Did I hear a boo from the Scottish gathering there? :p
I was thinking, only just before that, that my disillusion with the whole SNP, independence thing had led me to believe we'd be better off without them, just to let them fester in a mess of their own making and get it out of their system. I had similar thoughts about Brexit... sometimes things have to be allowed to get worse so they can get better.

But that Scottish ceremony and all the recent talk about Balmoral and the Highlands, and hearing Scots talk affectionately about the Queen, had reawakened my hopes that we'll remain a United Kingdom. So when I heard the booing I was suddenly jolted back to despising their attempts to make us even weaker as a dwindling power in a complicated world.

My feelings are further complicated by the fact that of all our current leaders, I thought Nicola Sturgeon made the best, most convincing tribute to Her Majesty. I like to think that's just her being politically astute and playing to all parts of her electorate, but it might just be that she's a better person than I give her credit for.

I think I may be having a mawkish nervous breakdown if I'm starting to think like that!

I’ve also seen quite a few people in hats as the hearse drives past. Do people not know the proper etiquette regarding passing hearses these days?
I know the Police have a job to do, and there's no doubt protocol about this, but I'd quite like to have seen them, hats off, turn to face her, not watch the crowd. But I guess I'd soon change my tune if an idiot tried to lob a brick at the hearse. And don't get me started on everyone waving phones at historic events covered by a million broadcast quality cameras. A quick souvenir selfie I can live with, but filming it instead of showing some respect... we are definitely not the nation we were when she ascended the throne. In some ways for the better. In many... well, the jury's still out.

When you see a crowd with phones out above their heads trying to get a view it looks like they are doing a nazi salute.

Quite sobering watching this footage, particularly as the hearse left Balmoral and passed through Ballater. Will be heading off shortly to pay my own respects as the cortege enters Perthshire.
