Does the link cable power the device as well as feed data? If so, then I guess there isn't much point in being able to use both. Just added expense creating the pass through.

If not, that's a bit poor.
Not sure tbh.

I was intending on getting the strap with the battery and carry case (£120) as it was only £20 more than getting the electric strap (without battery) plus the carry case....

... but if it means you have to use the default uncomfortable strap with link, meh?

Why would you need to use the battery AND the Link cable?

Yes it does.
Because it’s a battery built into a comfortable headset.

You wouldn’t be able to use your comfortable headset with link, presumably?

From the horses mouth when adding it to my basket: “Elite strap with battery cannot be used with oculus link”

So unless you are planning on being exclusively mobile it’s probably better to get the standard elite strap and carry case, rather than the battery version that you can’t use with link.

You just unplug the USB-C cable coming from the battery and plug in the Link cable.

That would make sense but it depends how it’s configured. If you need to be plugged in to practically attach the strap, it might not work. Hmm.
The battery strap has a battery at the back, a cable runs from that battery down the left hand side of the strap and plugs into the USB-C port. If you want to use the Link cable you just unplg the battery cable and plug in the Link cable.

I actually really don't like having the trackers on my desk, I think they're ugly, so glad that both the Quest 2 and Reverb G2 remove the need for them.

I keep arguing with myself in both directions. PC power isn't an issue.

Reverb G2 seems to have the overall quality in picture and sound
Reverb G2 probably wins in comfort
Reverb G2 won't be linked to Facebook
Quest 2 has better controllers from what I can work out.
Quest 2 is white (my new PC build is going to be white)
Quest 2 has the untethered option...
Quest 2 is considerably cheaper

Comfort can be improved though, so extra expense, but unless the standard g2 stuff is really comfortable, it may not be that much of a difference in price differences.

Fully hyped for this. As someone coming from no ownership or real experience of VR I find the biggest draw here is the low cost of entry, and while I am definitely concerned about Facebook and their privacy fun and games, I think there will be ways of mitigating the impact on yourself that make it a non-issue on an individual basis.

Those focusing on the accessories, if you're certain on getting one of these I wouldn't delay too long, I'd just get the preorder in and worry about accessories later.

You can use the battery headstrap with the Link, you just can't have the battery plugged in while using the Link cable. In any case there's no point in having the battery connected as while using USB3 the Quest will charge the battery while using it.

The battery headstrap will add more counterweight though which will make the headset more comfortable.

From what Ive read the battery pack headset has a charging port on the back of it that passes through to the headset itself. So to charge both batteries you only need to plug in one cable.

The battery headband itself is connected to the main headset by a short cable that runs along the side, to the standard charging port.

Obviously you can use the headband with link, as in you can still wear the headband. But you'll need to disconnect the cable from the side of the headset and plug in the link cable.

It is a pity that the battery cable isn't a USB C passthrough for data as well as power, as the rear charge port connection would be a lot better location for the link cable.

Yeah, It's half the price, it's madness really. Minor loss of quality and comfort for half the price and portability...Sod it, might just go for it.

Cheers for the help with the headset chaps.

Put in an order for the 64GB and the battery strap. The idea of it being better balanced was a great point :)

However, the battery strap is arriving in November, after the Oculus itself. That’ll teach me for faffing!

Just ordered mine, was supposed to be ordering a gpu soon but the quest 2 is what I've been looking for, gpu will come at some point soon though. Figured rather then wait for the dust to settle amd vs nvidia I could be playing vr games with the kids and maybe a bit of iracing if my 980ti will let me with the quest.

The rainforest is showing the Battery Strap as released on 13th October, I ordered both Elite Straps last night (will see how reviews pan out leading up to the release and cancel whichever I don't want).
