After changing my mind several times, I am finally on the verge of ordering one. I just have a few questions regarding the link cable/wireless.

Is there any point to the link cable if you are going to be using it wirelessly with Virtual Desktop?

If they improve the performance through the link cable, less artefacts etc. Will those changes/improvements transfer across to the wireless connection too?

Last question, My PC is upstairs far away from the router and I don't have great Wifi connection. Never needed it before. Would it be better just to get a Wifi adapter for my PC and connect the Quest 2 to it that way? Or would it better going through a router?

for me personally I barely used link on the Quest once I had WiFi set up. Visually very similar, but there is less latency on the wired link... I would guess wired has more headroom for improvement in the future though.

wireless is just so liberating though... for me it was well worth it.

it’s unlikely. the WiFi is an unofficial application and works differently... the most well known option of virtual desktop has the developer already working on his own improvements though.

Hugely dependent upon distance in my experience. Best generally recommended option is just a router plugged into your pc by Ethernet to act as an access point. Plenty using wireless ad hoc networks too I believe though. Whichever you do it just pays to have it as close as possible to your play area.

Thanks Zee. I have Guy Godin's version of Virtual Desktop on Steam and Oculus. There is a FOMO factor for me in picking between the Link and Wireless. I do believe Oculus will do some major improvements with the Link in future.

And I am just after noticing the other thread about the router vs PCIe card. Some good info in there.

Do you have a long cable that ends in USB C lying around?

If so just use that to see what you are missing out on, if you want to you can then invest in a longer cable or official link one.

Yeah I thought about that, but I only have really short USB-C cables. Guess they could be good enough to try out the visuals at least.

What are people's thoughts on the quest 2 with regards to Saint and sinners been 12 GB in size. I had ordered the 64 gigabyte version but having second thoughts and may well order the 256gb version.

So with the Quest 2, if I’m really only going to be using it attached to my PC do I need the 256Gb model or will the 64Gb model suffice?
I've ordered the 64gb version after people said most games are 1-2gb in size, however the new Saint and Sinner weighs in at 12gb which leads me to think that games for the Q2 might be larger.

Not worried. I tend to only play 1 big title at a time. Even if I push that to 2, there'd still be room for plenty of smaller time passing games. Seems some games are introducing cloud storage for save files too.

I'm sure all new games going forward will have cloud saves, so it shouldn't be an issue with the newer, bigger games.

Older games need to be updated for cloud saves though. Superhot just added support in an update for example.
