Quest 2 Facebook leak - XR2 chipset, 6gb RAM, "almost 4k display"

Apparently at the moment that’s a good way to risk getting the account permabanned... they are in full antibot mode with the run up to the election so are zero tolerance. Even actual valid (ie correct name and details) newly created accounts that are subsequently inactive or had previously been active and deleted are seemingly sometimes getting banned.

So the danger is you do that, link the accounts and make some purchases but then the account gets banned and now you are sad. Even worse you think you got away with it and 6 months from now the algorithm hunts you down and you’ve spent much more money by then.

If you have a valid account then you should be able to get it fixed eventually with proof of ID etc, but if you’ve used fake details you are screwed...

It’s a ridiculous system frankly. They need to have an account system for players that aren’t interested in being active on social media but are still a source of income for Facebook from the games/apps/media bought on the Oculus store. They could call them oculus accounts! Hang on....

I despise everything about Facebook but fancy one of these..

Can i just make a new email account and random Facebook with zero content then use this thing.

If you've ever had a facebook account in the past, even if you closed it, attempt to use that one first.

If not, make a genuine account, make some posts, add a profile pic (doesn't have to be you) add a few friends, send them messages saying you don't intend to use it. Basically it needs to be you, since they may require ID. You also need to show some activity, preferably with friends/family close by, that you can flag as relations.

well, not much chance of me getting banned, at the moment I can't create an account at all, on Edge and Chrome it won't even show me the bot check and on phone it asks me to type in a code and then takes me back to the first page of the signup process without creating an account, just stuck in a loop

Well that's me not bothering then. So ridiculous

Yes and no. People have equally valid complaints about fake profiles, hence the requirements to show it's genuine (most accounts aren't asked for ID for instance). I guess a lot of people making new accounts put in name, date of birth, maybe a generic photo and stop, mabe some random friend requests. Which is pretty similar I'd imagine to how a bot would setup. Facebook have somehow got to stop bots/fake accounts on the one hand, but should apparently allow people to create fake/dummy accounts on the other? There's a problem there.

I don’t think the requirements of setting up a Facebook account are ridiculous, as you say there are very valid arguments there... especially in these days of bot accounts, state sponsored troll factories, fake news and all round cyber assholery.

Needing to do that to play VR games when you don’t even want to use any of the social features is in my opinion utterly ridiculous however. The way it currently works (or rather used to work) with Oculus accounts for using the headset/accessing the store and then a requirement to link a Facebook account for social features is far more reasonable but I guess doesn’t allow Facebook to extend their grasp on every aspect of their users’ data.

Absolutely fair enough to refuse to get a facebook account simply to use a quest 2. However for those of us that have facebook anyway, I really see no issue in linking them.

No, unless you are one of the ones (of which anecdotally there are already quite a few online complaining about it) that gets caught out with an unwarranted ban which then locks you out of your new £300-£400 headset and your purchased content as you are now also unable to set up a new account due to the Facebook account requirements.

That is the fundamental problem with it I would suggest, beyond any gripes about Facebook’s data mining practises. It probably won’t affect the majority of genuine and courteous users but it’s still a problem worth acknowledging for those it does appear to be unfairly affecting.

When the only impact of a ban is being unable to use an otherwise free service it’s arguably not such a big deal, they aren’t obliged to provide you with a service after all.

When the impact is locking you out of a piece of hardware and various/multiple purchased software items (many of which will in fact have come from different companies and merely have been distributed via the oculus store) that you have paid for it’s another issue entirely. It needs an incredibly robust, fast, easy and above all fair and transparent appeals procedure to prevent inappropriate use. Even then I’m not sure of the practical legality of preventing a user from accessing hardware they have legally purchased nor from using software provided either by oculus or third party companies unrelated to the alleged infraction. It will be interesting to see how the EU in particular reacts to that issue.

There absolutely needs to be a far better process now it can lock you out of paid got goods. They'll have to show far more evidence etc now there's significant money on the line.

There's an unconfirmed rumour going around that Oculus will have a 'firewalled' Facebook account especially for VR (They could call it an Oculus account ), which should fix a lot of the issues. Facebook are supposed to be announcing soon exactly how Facebook accounts are supposed to work with Oculus devices. (They apparently hadn't worked out all the details...)

Unfortunately that is totally unconfirmed as you say and was literally just a random user posting “this is what they told me when I was doing some work there”.

I really hope they end up doing something like that but I wouldn’t pin my hopes on a random Reddit user

I have a small budget to buy some games for the Quest 2 when I finally get it sometime after October the 19th.

Just wondering is there any games that are a must have on the Quest 2? I should ask this question a different way. Are there games that are much better on the Quest/Quest 2 than a PCVR headset?

I have a good few VR games on the PC already. If at all possible I don't want to buy the Quest version of the same game unless that game is actually better on the Quest.

Or would I better off not buying any games until new games are realised that take full advantage of the Quest 2's hardware like running at 90Hz etc.

Any game that can make use of roomscale or the ability to dodge or move around is much better on the Quest than PCVR, due to the lack of a cable. Even with the drop in visual fidelity and framerate.

My current favourite is In Death: Unchained, which is a bow and arrow rogue lite. It was great on PC, but with room to move around and physically dodge it's amazing on Quest. Considering the low power of the Quest, the port is absolutely incredible and improves on the abandoned PC version in quite a few ways.

Fitness games like FitXR (Formerly BoxVR) and Thrill of The Fight are much better without the cord.

Also a lot of Quest 1 games are getting upgraded visuals for Quest 2 and will be worth a buy.

Beat Sabre, simple and addictive with the bonus of getting exercise at the same time.
Pistol Whip, fps shooter it's on rails but don't let that put you off.
