Quest 3 accessories thread

I’m now using the 5m powered INIU link cable connected to 5m CSL active USB 3.0 extension cable so I can use my quest in the living room while my desktop is in my office.
It works fine that way and the quest is charging and Oculus software showing 2.3Gbps bandwidth.
The only issue I’m having is that the powered INIU cable can freeze USB port on either pc, quest or both if I connect everything in the wrong order and have to reboot both lol.
Why not play wirelessly via Airlink or virtual desktop? In my opinion that is the single biggest upgrade to PCVR that has ever been developed.

Because input lag is noticeably higher and compression artifacts much more visible when using wireless than over a cable pushing 500mbps (even at 500mbps I’m still seeing some compression but it’s minimal).

I’ve been playing Alyx on VD, and it looks amazing. Definitely better than having a cable getting wrapped around you as you play.

What is amazing to you might not be to me.
I’m very sensitive to compression artifacts especially in VR as it is inconsistent between the 2 eyes.
Tried VD at 200mbps AV1 and it looks much worse to me than 500mbps h264 over a wire.

I’ll have to give it a try wired then, just to see how good it looks, I have got the official oculus link cable. I can’t imagine it being worth getting tangled in a cable whilst playing though.

My current graphics card doesn’t have a USB port though, do you know if it works fine from the motherboard USB C socket?

Uninterrupted power connected to the charging plug and decent signal if wired starts playing up.
My last play session was 6 hours and gave me 0 issues.
Like I said the powered INIU cable is a bit funny when connecting but once connected it works flawlessly.
If anything it is wireless connection that can work fine then suddenly go wild if there is interference.
I live in a block of flats so the only interference free option is a cable or 6ghz wifi which I dont have and it would only be temporary anyway before my neighbours start using 6ghz as well.

its just usb connection so it doesnt matter where you plug it in as long as you get enough bandwidth

Ordered some HonsVR lenses on the weekend, Zenni won't do my prescription (just outside), and even with HonsVR, it worked out at £65 as they need extra thin lenses..

They have emailed to say they will take 5 days to produce due to this, but that's fine, all inline with the expectation.. the kids seem happy using the Quest 2 still, so might nick the Quest 3 full time for iRacing etc.

Great, thanks, I’ll give it a go and report back.
I had to test it again as when someone say wireless image quality is amazing makes me think I'm exaggerating when I say wired is much better.
So I started blade and sorcery using VD 200mbps AV1 10bit and immediately I can see distant rocks covered in compression artifacts and loss of details.!
Using cable and 500mbps h264 its almost perfect and the difference is massive.
As you can see I'm pushing constant 200mbps over wifi to the headset.

So I was just comparing VD and airlink and airlink h265 has much higher quality than VD using h265 or AV1 at a given bitrate.
In my eyes VD at 200mbps looks similar to airlink at 100mbps or even less.!

Different people have different successes with each software. I often used to check out each after an update just to be sure. Another big issue can be the network you're using.

Just a quick update on the Maecker Battery headstrap.
Been playing for a couple of days now and find if you turn on the headstrap battery when the q3 is about 80% charge then the battery will virtually hold the q3 charge at that.
This is also the same findings that people with the bobovr headstrap battery have.
The usb c charger plugs into the headstrap and you can either charge just the headstrap battery , or the headstrap and the q3 at the same time. Very useful.
Very pleased with it, comfy and the battery performs well. Only time will tell about its longevity but at the moment, im impressed.
