Quest 3 owners etc

Got the dispatch, so hopeful for a delivery by Friday. I also have a £50 store credit for Meta store. initial temping's are Walkabout golf, Les Mills Bodycombat and potentially Virtual Desktop (although I think I'll tinker with Steamlink first to test out HL:A and other already purchased steam VR games).

Walkabout is fantastic. And it means you can easily join us all on the social thread (though we do occasionally play other games, walkabout works well due to allowing 8 at once).

Virtual desktop really isn't needed. I've ran AirLink and directly via the Steam app and both work perfectly fine.

Thanks for the info. Is Airlink better than Steam Link then or is entirely game dependant? I plan on using the PCs wifi 6 card to connect the headset and of course first game to revisit will be HL:A.

I personally wouldn't say either is better, I tend to use Steam Link these days as it just seems to work.

meta's frequent borkdates to the PC and headset apps can regularly render Link/Airlink inoperable, so it's always good to have a backup of either Steamlink or Virtual Desktop (wireless/wired)

Virtual Desktop can offer better performance for some OpenXR games as it has its own custom implementation.
In general I pick either Link or Virtual Desktop depending on particular games run.

I can't get Steam Link working with acceptable image quality or acceptable performance despite having a 4090 and a headset that supports eye tracked foveated rendering.

Wow, holy mackerel this is definitely s step up from the OG Vive. Having to suffer with glasses at the moment till lens arrive but even so this a considerable FOV improvement from what I can remember. Now for Airlink connection and HL:A testing (:

While you're waiting for your lenses, you might as well pick up a decent facial interface and battery headstrap during black november, as I feel you're going to be spending a lot of time in VR

Already ordered! (:

Just trying to complete or add the SteamVR library into Meta Quest Link app but it refuses to show even after restarting Steam / Meat Link and refreshing the library list (Unknown Sources is enabled). Oddly, It does let me launch HL:A though, which looks fantastic albeit quite choppy! Am I supposed to opt for OpenXR runtime or leave it (oh it is now greyed out, oops).

This may help -

It's odd, The SteamVR app now appears in the Meta Link app, after I launched it from the desktop and if now launch that, I can then access games via the Steam home so it works, seemingly, in a roundabout way!

Yes, some unknown source apps need to be run once before they appear in your link library.

Have to go pick up a Quest 3 128gb this weekend. With some vouchers that I'd forgotten about I've snagged one for less than the price of a Quest 3s. Was going to get a 3s, but noticed they had the 3 128gb available for collection from saturday.

My first VR headset since... Ummm... I had a Virtuality machine in the garage. :D Does that date me? I think it does.

Already looking at prescription lenses and games. Already bought I Expect you to Die. :D Think I'll grab HL Alyx and Skyrim too while I'm at it.

what did you have in the garage ? one of those nintendo things?

Virtuality, those big VR arcade machines from the 90s.

oh wow
never tried them, but i was one in london when i was small

Yup.
We had a stand up one from an arcade that closed down. Sold it something like 25 years ago now to a collector. Saw a working pair sell a couple of years back for £20k. Ouch. Got nohing even close to that. The early ones were powered an Amiga 3000. As an Amiga fan, it was cool to have. Worked fully too. Made so many people feel ill with it's lovely 15-20fps. ;)
