Quest 3 owners etc

You need a router in the same room as the headset for a reliable wireless PCVR link, ideally line of sight.

And it's worse with 6E routers. They are even more affected by walls and obstacles.

I tried to play HL:Alyx yesterday using Virtual Desktop, with my PC on in another room. I kept getting stutters, and if I turned my head quickly it's like the image was delayed and I just saw lots of black. Basically it was unplayable.

I only have a basic Virgin Media WiFi setup with the Super Hub 4 (I think, which I believe is a WiFi 5 router). Could this be the issue? Would WiFi 6 make that much difference? Is it worth me asking VM for a Super Hub 5 as that is WiFi 6. They don't have anything that is 6E currently and I want to avoid spending money.

I don't have access to all my settings to share right now but just curious if anyone else has experienced this before and knows a simple solution?

Is the Hub in the same room as where you use the Quest?

Is the Hub connected to your PC by network cable and is that cable cat 5e or higher?

The quality of the wireless connection between your headset and router is vital for the Quest Headsets.

There is no simple solution. You are going to have to try some things.

Yes hub is in the same room, PC is in a different room connected through home plugs.

Anyway, I managed to fix it. I changed the FPS to 72 and also changed codec from H264+ to one of the 10 bit ones, I think HEVC. I was even able to increase quality to Godlike and it runs and looks AMAZING!

It's so good finally being able to play HL:Alyx without a wire and with some more space around me.

Flight sim still looks crap though.

Some games look pretty bad over wireless unless you can get a 6E router and really crank the bitrate up.

It's normally games with lots of foliage or dark muddy colours. Skyrim VR is a particular case.
Grabbing a tplink wifi 6e router was by FAR the best thing ive done so far for my quest 3 pcvr setup. in virtual desktop you can just crank the bitrate all the way up and havent had even a single stutter so far and thats using my headset 2 rooms away from the main pc and router. Game changer.

I was just about to post asking about the best setup to link my Q3 to the pc wirelessly , looks like you have answered my question already

I've been playing around with the quest game optimizer. Quite a powerful tool for 10 quid. Some profiles aren't quite refined e.g. contractors exfil, I get frame drops on bigger maps but fine on smaller ones. Resolution boost is welcomed.

Demeo is incredibly sharp and it's crazy that these developers can't offer patches to tweak resolution for quest 3.

I went back to trying vader immortal - wow, the ridiculous blurry text on the load in screen is gone and runs smooth with the hd+ profile.

I wonder if they will follow the same console path - offer performance and quality modes going into the latter half of quest 3 life cycle and quest 4.

Does this actually sharpen up and improve media playback like SkyBox Vr or Bigscreen Beta? Thanks

The neat thing about it is you can auto apply Preset. You don't need to keep loading it up.

So if I pick the default preset or my own one then whenever I click that application it auto applies.

This puzzles me too tbh. I know how easy this is to do - 1. do a check for what headset it is (1 line of code) - 2. perform a resolution increase if it's a Q3 (1 line of code). I try to avoid games/apps that aren't optimized for Q3.

Upping the resolution will affect battery life so there is a compromise there to be made. I like it when games offer an option to increase graphic quality so I can choose. Dungeons of Eternity and The Light Brigade do this.

I either play golf with the guys, maybe some Demeo now I've installed that, I had a battery pack, the only other stuff I play I'm hardwired to my PC, but do I reaaaaaly need sideloaded stuff?

yes, yes you do..
there have been some interesting stuff on sidequest.
plus "quest optimizer" needs to be side loaded

Hey guys, I've just picked up my quest 3... can anyone recommend any essential accessories etc?

if you dislike the strap or facial interface, then i use the meta head strap and put my own power bank on the back and use the AMVR facial interface (PU leather)

You will no doubt end up with some sort of headstrap with battery, facial interface, then maybe a charge/PCVR cable, that's about it really..
