Quest 3 owners etc

Passthrough is just fine when actually playing something, as it's not the primary focus.

I missed a few notes on beat saber, but nothing more than I'd expect in q2, I tend to just blame myself when I thought I hit it but really I missed. Play on expert+ only.

Tried a couple of pistol whip runs and immediately broke my high score on a level, felt much more accurate.

I wasn’t thinking, setup with a new Meta account forgetting my previous Quest 2 purchases were using my Facebook account.

Do I need to reset and setup using my old account or can I merge them, have added my Facebook using add accounts but can’t see beat saber or the other games I bought previously.

Sucks about dead pixels.. I had one on my HTC vive and it was super annoying in dark environments.

Seems I got lucky for once (returned 3x Pico 4s) and don't appear to have dead pixels... Just for an anecdote that not all headsets have issues.

Ok, here is my mini review after about an hour and half of playtime.

First off, I was amazed at how small the box was. Opened the box to find a very well package Quest 3. The controllers seem a little smaller than the Quest 2's but they feel great in the hands. The haptics also feel great.

Charged it up and put it on. The default strap is better than the default strap in the Quest 2. But I think most people here will upgrade anyway. The facial interface is the biggest improvement. It's pretty comfortable. Much better than the stock interface on the Quest 2. Pretty positive so far.

No dead pixels, which is a relief. The lenses are fantastic. The colours really pop as well. Switched back and forth between the Quest 2 and the Quest 3 for a few games to check for FOV, colours etc. It's amazing how much better everything looks. For me there is a definite increase in FOV.

Control Tracking: The tracking is really good. No problems at all apart from one time in Beat Saber. The left controller acted started acting like the Quest 2 controllers do when they start to run out of battery. It jumped all over the place for a second and then stopped moving completely. A few seconds later it started working again and has been fine since. Just something that I will keep an eye on. Until that happened, it was much better than the Quest 2. Some of you might remember me complaining about tracking in the Beat Saber thread. That I seemed to keep missing notes that I was sure I was hitting. No such problems in the few maps I tried with the Quest 3. Until the controller went crazy, I was happy out.

Passthrough: I can understand why reviewers said it was really good. It's not crystal clear or anything, there is still warping etc. But you can read your phone and use your computer without taking off the headset. The quality varies a lot depending on the light. Too much light is as bad as too little. But the reason I think reviews were so positive about it is when you start gaming with it. The little demo they have for the AR is a fantastic glimpse into what AR gaming would be like. You just don't notice that the quality isn't great. The sense of depth adds so much to the experience. Wasn't interested much in passthrough before playing the game, now I can't wait to see where it goes.

Sound: Massive improvement over the Quest 2. Both in quality and directional audio.

Movies: Just want to add a small section about movie watching. Tested a couple of movies and am very happy with both the picture and audio quality. Sure won't be as good as my OLED, but I think this is the first headset where I would be happy to sit down and watch a movie. The display is really, really good.

OVERALL: It's significant upgrade over the Quest 2. With lots of potential. Just to have to keep an eye on that tracking glitch that I got in Beat Saber.

Will report back if I have any further issues or updates.

whilst im charging my quest 3, i looked at the controllers, i know im used to the pico 4, but i find the thumb buttons are a little harder to get on to ? and i do have big hands, so its not that i have little hands or anything
i will look at it later when charged and set up

Well, got my refund from Argos so that was nice and quick. It was absolute dead in there, so had a good chat with the bloke behind the counter.
He had a go on it, and couldn't see it. I told him which eye, and the exact location but he couldn't find it.

This absolutely tells me that 1. The panels are crap 2. 'Most' people are lucky enough not to see them.

Yes there will be a lot of perfect ones out there, but I think there are more sub par panels than perfect ones. When you think about it, mass producing millions of pixel perfect panels will cost an absolute fortune.
