Quest 3 owners etc

We usually get referrals for games from each other. You aren't allowed to solicit, but you can ask for one and get it PM'd to you.

Supposedly there is a way to get it to work, even if you had a q2 beforehand. Unfortunately, it was a bit late for anyone here who got it on release day (most of us), but perhaps it'll work for the others. I don't know for sure if it works though, since I don't think we've had anyone try it. Worth a shot.
My Q3 arrives on sunday, so let me know what I need to do if you can please.

I have been playing Half Life Alyx via steam & virtual desktop.

How would I go about running Microsoft Flight Sim on the quest 3 ? as its free to me on gamepass for Windows.

Cheers all

Thinking about getting one of these but I’ve never had a VR headset before. The only thing holding me back is that I know I suffer from motion sickness. I will get motion sickness even from first player games initially, but if I keep playing them it goes away entirely. I can’t read anything in a moving car etc. without feeling super nauseous. Is it a terrible idea to try and get into VR? Anyone else suffer from it and managed to train their brain to push through it?

Yep, I'm terrible for it but I know exactly what sets me off. Teleport movement is fine as is moving about in vr physically. It's standing still and having my character move that knocks me sick. Options are jog on the spot as you move forwards in vr or just use the teleport mechanic

There's a lot you can do to help yourself. First off, not all games induce bad motion sickness. Anything where you're controlling/riding a vehicle is probably a no-go for you at first. Anything that has you in zero gravity/flying too.

However, many games either don't have movement (table tennis, boxing, beat saber, puzzles) or have a teleport to move option (virtually every first person shooter/puzzler etc). These are far less stressful on the senses. Also snap turning rather than smooth turning.

In addition you can play with a fan blowing towards you to help keep you cool, and maybe try a ginger sweet too.

You also get better at dealing with it, getting your VR legs as time goes on. So with practice you can move onto other things. If you do start to feel sick, stop, don't try and push through. Lots of short experiences, without pushing through, will help you adapt.

Oh, and a higher refresh rate can help too.

Contemplating buying a new game that’s specifically optimised for Quest 3 to see the difference. Annoying walking dead still doesn’t seem to be updated and Asgards wrath isn’t out until December.

Is “Red matter 2” worth buying. I’m not normally interested in puzzle games but the reviews seem really positive. Quite like the look of “Into the Radius” which apparently looks much better on Quest 3.

Any recommendations on the above or other Quest 3 optimised titles which are currently available?

When you buy a quest 3 optimised title do you have to so anything specific to ensure it’s running the “Quest 3” version or does it automatically run that variant.

Can't talk for optimization, but I tried Into the Radius on PCVR, and tried pushing through the intro, it really just didn't grab me, I certainly wouldn't recommend it (there again, others rave about it, so it could very much be a taste thing).

Thanks guys, I’ll be mainly playing on PC and from researching online the Q3 appears to be a most recommended for people looking to have an entry into VR. I just want to avoid spending £500 on something that makes me so sick it ends up in the drawer. I guess I could try it and return it if it’s really not for me…

You say you'll mostly be playing PC, but just wait and see :D. Minigolf is probably my most played game, and that's been standalone. PCVR is great, but there's a ton of straight up fun (and fairly cheap) standalone experiences that are awesome. I tend to find the social aspect of VR is one of the biggest draws, which isn't what I expected to be honest.

You can train yourself to get over VR Motion sickness. It just takes a little bit of time. It's very simple. You put on the headset, you play a game. Now this is the important bit. The second you start to feel nauseous, take off the headset and go do something else for a while. I just want to stress this point. Don't wait, don't try to push through, don't be all macho. The second you feel like even a tiny bit queasy remove the headset.

When you are fully recovered, try again. Repeat until cured.

You should find that over time you can play for longer before you start to notice yourself getting motion sick. This works, you just have to be patient.

Actually population one has apparently received updates to the res, detail and draw distance so I’ll maybe give that a shot.

Definitely worth trying. Just buy it from somewhere that allows for easy returns. I doubt you’ll have any issues though if you avoid using the joystick for smooth turning motions and do what @melmac suggests. Most games have lots of VR comfort settings/options.

You definitely get used to it over time, I got very nauseous at first, but I’ve had every Quest since the dev kit 2 and now I’m totally fine even with non-teleport games.

One good way to build-up your VR legs is to watch plenty of the ‘Czechoslovakian’ VR 180 videos ;)

This how I deal with it currently. I do tend to look specifically to see if a game has a teleport option as well. One day maybe I won't need it but as I tend to play games with those options, or things like table tennis etc where you don't need to move much, I do still get nauseous when trying games without.

I finished Red Matter 2 on Quest 3 day before yesterday and it was great.! It looks sharp and textures are surprisingly high resolution compared to Quest 2 version.
Can definitely recommend it.
I’m now playing firs part of pc. :)

Hmm afaik walkind dead 2 has upgraded graphics for quest 3, there are comparison youtube vids about, looked to be a difference but idk. With the Q3 you can play native games at quite a lot higher resolution than the default res they play so they look better, with sidequest or the quest games optimizer you can up the textures, it does make a difference.
