Quest 3 owners etc

is the Netflix app audio just quiet? I was watching a movie on it last night with my headphones in and quest volume max and it was very hard to hear.
It seems ok to me, though last time i watched netflix on my Q3 i streamed it from my PC with VD, just more options etc.

Hmm afaik walkind dead 2 has upgraded graphics for quest 3, there are comparison youtube vids about, looked to be a difference but idk.

From what I’ve read, whilst it’s been previewed , the Quest 3 graphics update patches for chapter 1 or 2 of the walking dead aren’t available yet and there’s no exact release date set?

I’m also not clear whether both walking dead chapters are getting the Quest 3 graphical updates or if it’s just one of them?

If anyone can clarify either of those points feel free to chip in!

Certainly in the preview footage Meta showed it looked like it was going to be a massive leap from the Quest 2 version.

I'm a long time Rift S user and have just splurged on the Quest3 as an upgrade.

My PC doesn't have any wireless capability, can anyone recommend a cheap wireless adapter from this site and how many Mbps will it need (clueless in that regard). My PC is sat next to my router which is ethernet connected to PC but its a Sky router, will that do, or will I need an upgrade - again clueless :D.

Alternatively as I'm mainly into PCVR (MSFS & IL2 ) shall I just get a USB C to USB connector instead ?

Any help appreciated

cheers

Is your PC connected/wired to your internet router as that’ll work if the pc is wired and your quest is wireless both on the Sky router?

split the 5ghz and 2.4ghz wifi bands and name them differently, only allow the quest to connect to 5ghz and you'll be golden :)

Thanks, I also had to re install the oculus software. Was having a blonde moment :)...I'm so out of touch ffs

Seems like it's really power hungry. Need to have a very fast charging power bank to keep up.

I probably need to upgrade what I'm using.

Edit I've not watched, is there something on top of just being thirsty?

The guy in the video didn’t really find a reason other than some games draining battery more than others.
Me I’m using power bank that can deliver 140W from each usb c port and also displays power draw of every single connected device.
What I’m seeing is that it can draw up to 23W when playing games but at times it just doesn’t want to draw enough power and battery level stays the same until I restart it.
Seems like a bug to me.

Could it perhaps be overheating control? Charging a battery that fast adds a lot of heat.

I don’t think so as there is no pattern to it and putting it to sleep doesn’t fix it only rebooting does.
Also my other power bank that can deliver 40W charges it very slowly every time.

Ah right ok thx for that info, i won't be buying until they've been updated.

When it’s drawing 23w what state of charge is the Quest battery at?

Lithium batteries only draw maximum charging current at lower states of charge, as the battery SOC gets higher the charging speed slows down.

I do think building in these batteries deep inside the headset and making them difficult to replace is asking for trouble, especially as the demands on these batteries seems to be much higher in the Q3. Here's hoping they last a long time.

I still think the Pico and Quest Pro solution of the battery in the headstrap is better both for balance and for easier battery replacement.

The battery in my Q2 wouldn’t charge above 80% after 2.5 years, luckily Meta replaced it with a refurbished Q2 for free, even though it was out of warranty!

I’d agree. Having used several VR headsets and tried the Elite strap with battery it’s so much more balanced with the battery weight added to the back of the headset.

Putting the battery inside the headset next to the chip/lenses itself is just poor design and makes the device far too front heavy especially with a fabric strap. It’s clearly only being done to save on cost and upsell accessories .

That’s why I said “up to”. I didn’t pay attention to battery % but it’s in the lower half for sure and doesn’t stay at 23W for very long.
