Quest 3 owners etc

I see that the Quest 2 has now been reduced to £250, a fair amount of tech though getting on a bit for that price. Don't see any reduction on the 3 though.

Ravenger did you get the 3 since I believe you have the pro, and if so, how do they compare to each other?

I've not got a 3 yet. Planning to get one for Christmas if I get a decent bonus from work. From what I've read the 3 has less, almost invisible SDE than the Pro, but Pro has the better colours, and improved contrast due to local dimming. Pro of course comes with default with features and accessories that are extra on the Q3 - decent headstrap, charging dock and pro controllers, and of course has eye-tracking which you can't get on the 3. That's only important if you play VR chat or are a hardcore simmer and want foveated rendering for better performance.

If you're using it for PCVR the Quest 3 is a bit of a side-grade from the Pro. (Though it has a better wireless chipset, so wireless PCVR is a bit better) Q3 blows the Pro away for standalone and MR which is what I will use it for.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HPReverb/comments/17y5njr/simracing_reverb_g2_vs_quest_3_review/ I've been posting me impressions and testing feedback here. Now that I found this thread, I'm basically trying to find a way to get supersampling to work properly. So "App Res" in ODT never exceeds the max you have set in the desktop app which at 90hz and 1.5 = 5440x2944

It does seem the PCVR link cable optimization is rather unfinished at this stage with no supersampling, no 120hz mode and lot of compression artefacts in the encoding process which are visible in simracing with a lot of high contrast sharp edges

I’m a varifocus glasses wearer so I naturally point my head to where I look. I have a small sweet spot IRL !
I’ll be getting Q3 for standalone but fairly sure I will keep my G2 as using a friends Q3 on their sim rig I see the compression fuzziness. Yes I could spend hours and hours tweaking various settings and upping bitrate etc. to reduce artifacts, but with a direct video connection it’s just plug and play.

I was able to make progress on the image quality by focing supersampling via the Oculus Tray Tool app. This was a massive leap in greatly reducing the shimmering/swimming to even below the G2 levels! while giving better clarity, sharpness and FoV. It shouldn't be this much work but here are my settings as of now and I can honestly say, it's hugely impressive. The only way I could get the Supersampling to work was via Tray Tools. Changing it under Debugtool does not seem to apply but I was able force it via Tray tools, force disable ASW and Disable Adaptive GPU scaling without have them reset each time.

You could always create a .bat file to open OTT and load your preferred settings before starting VR with a single click or when the PC starts. Chat GPT or Bard can create the batch file for you.

Alyx is the pinnacle of VR so far imo, just wish in the 4 years since it was made that someone else or valve would make something as good or better.

It's incredible it really is, although I'll need to check my performance, I've got the oculus setting maxed at 90hz and 1.5 and the in game setting max, felt alright but want make sure.

Apparently the 7900xtx isn't the greatest at vr.

Alyx does dynamic resolution scaling so if it thinks it should it may automatically lower your resolution to boost fps, to stop this add :
-console -vconsole +vr_fidelity_level_auto 0 +vr_fidelity_level 3
to the launch parameters in Steam.

Afaik that gpu is pretty good in vr, might not be 4090 levels but its price isn't either.

That card is at least double the performance needed to run Alyx perfectly at 90hz! I’m using an RTX 2070 Super and it runs it perfectly at 90hz Ultra.

Appreciate it thanks bud I'll try the console command.
Yeah I can't say I've had any issues thus far just read a few things from users saying the 7 series suffered poor vr performance, although further reading suggests its been fixed in drivers.
I'm really pleased with it so far so will see how it goes.

I had low vram warning detected when I first launched the game strangely, oculus app keep saying my pc doesn't met the requirements when I start it up, I've had not issues yet thankfully.

So I have iracing looking good and feeling good, like how buddy mentioned up there, it was manually pixel overriding in the debug that put it over the top for me.

It's so much effort trying to make this clear as can be.

I have a 7800x3d and a 4080, and oddly enough, the 4080 is waiting on the cpu according to iracing's little u.i. And it's backed up by afterburner saying my gpu is like 65-75%

Though ACC is definitely maxing out the GPU. I'm not sure what gives out first on AMS2 and AC.

I shouldn't have to put in all kinds of settings into the debug. But I guess with a 2d screen you're not fighting for every pixel of clarity.

I also changed encode bitrate to 850(via ctrl V) and Encode Resolution Width to 4128 because of random forum random person. I have no clue if that is doing anything(positive)

Two of my friends had this strap delivered yesterday..it holds the charge no problems at all but both straps has serious buzzing and interference coming through the speakers.
Looks like they are suffering from quality control issues
My Aubika arrived last Friday, no buzzing and it works really well.

Cheers all

Finally mounted my UniFi Access Point on the ceiling just above my play area and I can now push consistently 500mbps using AirLink without any issues. :)

I found that too much bitrate and the HMD had issue handling that much data. For example:

Wired Link
500 bitrate
1.4 supersampling via Tray Tools
In Oculus app 1.5x render res
90hz
ASW disabled

Anything above that either via supersampling or bitrate the HMD starts to have enconding drops. It's just poorly optimized by Meta.
