I've just ordered some px lenses off ali express. 16 quid delivered.

As in you're fresh to the Q3? Or you're fresh to VR altogether?

The obvious answers are:

Beat Saber
Walkabout Mini Golf
Half Life: Alyx

Less obvious, but it's stolen a huge amount of my time:

Puzzling Places

If you'ver just got the headset, presumably you've got a few months of Quest+ for free, which is a good way of trying out some games.

"v74, as it will remove the ability to install apks. This will render the installation of apps such as QuestGamesOptimizer impossible."
saw this on reddit, needs a bit more verrification.

"it seems like this issue is being caused because Meta is in the process of removing the standard Android package installer that has always been part of HorizonOS and replacing it with their own custom package installer. This means good odds that this isn't an accidental side effect. Apparently a lot of different devs who install packages outside of the meta store are trying to find workarounds but unable to really find any documentation on it yet. This makes sense if Meta's trying to harden up security a little, it still lets developers install using ADB bridge from the developer hub, but leaves Quest store as the only way to install packages directly on the headset itself."

something to watch for now

You can understand why Meta would do this, but it will kill the amazing source ports and useful utilities lke Quest Games Optimizer.

It's annoying that Microsoft aren't interested in official source ports of the older Bethesda and ID games. Carmack reputedly offered them a million dollars in sales guarantees to bring the Dr. Beef ports officially to the Horizon store, but Microsoft rebuffed him.

I had an email from QGO (probably everyone who owns QGO got it) telling me about a donationware app from the same developer that can install apps on v74. Hope side loading remains possible, without it my app can't be installed.

@Ravenger Just curious, if you were forced to pick between a Quest Pro and the Quest 3 for PCVR which would you choose?

Now, will do me a favour and just answer the question with "I would pick the Quest 3" or "I would pick the Quest Pro"

Please, don't explain why you would pick one over the other. I just want your immediate gut reaction to the question. Will give you a chance to expand on your answer with my next question!! :)

Quest Pro.

Quest Pro.

Really? OK, A friend of a Friend has a Quest Pro for sale for a really good price. He would sell it to me for not much more than the price of controllers would be new. He is giving me a few days to decide before he puts it up for sale. But I am not sure if I want to get it. Since I will be using it mainly for PCVR use, I said I would ask you which would you pick.

Would you consider it worthwhile to have both the Quest Pro and the Quest 3? I am also a bit concerned with what future updates will do to the Quest Pro.

If someone were to offer you the Quest Pro for £350, would you consider that a good buy?

I'd buy an other in an instant at that price as a backup for my existing pro.

At that price it's worth a risk. If you don't like it you could easily sell it for more than that.

I almost never use my Q3 for PC. The comfort (with the globular cluster kit), colour and contrast are so much better on the Pro. I much prefer the controllers too - as long as Meta don't keep messing with their firmware and causing issues.

Thank you for the advice Ravenger!!

Now I have another decision to make. Do I take the advice on image quality from a sarcastic old man who struggles to see the hole in walkabout mini golf. hmmmm. :p

as another consideration, i suppose one advantage is, you'd be able to use the quest pro controllers and update them on the Pro with other headsets i.e. quest 3.if you were inclidned to do that.

Edit : Quest pro also has eye tracking so, w'll be able to see when the Melmac rolls eyes at us in VRchat

Alternatively you can give me your friends details and I will gladly take it off his hands for the asking price, which will save you the trauma of a difficult decision. :)

Since my Fallout 4 VR modded version broke, I decided to nuke it and start again. I found out there's actually a really good modlist for the Wabbajack modlist installer called "Mad God's Overhaul", similar to what's been done for Skyrim.

I signed up for Nexus Mods premium for a month, to auto-download the mods, and gave it a go, and it works amazingly well. Performance also seems significantly better than my original modlist.

You do need the unmodified DLC from Fallout4 to get it to work though, which can be a faff if you haven't got the original files (Bethesda updated these recently which broke loads of mods). However there is a way to download them via Steam.

I am living dangerously by loading my save game from the old modded run, and it seems to work great as most of the mods I used are included in the Mad God Overhaul modlist anyway. Fingers crossed this doesn't break anything. If it does I'll just have to start again.
