Quest 3 preview

What are people thinking? Sounds good to me... 2 screens pancake lenses - it would be my first headset - is it worth pre-ordering or do I wait for all the details?

Also would you go for a Q3 or ultra wide OLED?

Did they mention how glasses wearer can use this? It doesn’t look like it is backwardly compatible with the prescription lenses of Quest 2.
The interface is adjustable, so you can effectively move the lenses further away, making room for glasses.. a neat idea, although I guess might reduce the field of view slightly.

And deffo any prescription lenses won't be compatible from the Quest 2, the pancake lenses are much larger..

I've caved in and pre-ordered, we use the Quest 2 fairly often, and it's been good VFM.. so went all in, 512GB Q3 + Battery Strap (has been great on the quest 2).. £749 :eek

We have a spare Quest 2 carry case (great customer support, when the Elite Battery Strap cracked, they sent an entire new pack out, strap + carry case..) so might see if this fits in there, since it's smaller it should..

I think I’ll wait a bit before jumping in, just spent almost £800 on a new camera and accessories today.
Understandable.

To be honest, I wasn't as excited as the Quest 2, that has been such a good little headset, really has had the whole family using it, and the Q3 is really more for me, but the FOMO kicks in, the Quest 2 was in short supply for a while after it launched, getting the Battery Strap was a complete lottery, so I'm a bit tainted by that and it pushed me over the edge to buy now.. so guaranteed there was will excess stock and no shortages this time..

Seems like some YT'ers are offering opinion on it so you could check those out. But it's bound to be a good vr headset, especially for a 1st timer. Meta headsets usually come with great easy to use software and easy setup. The Quest 2 was/is good and the Quest 3 improves on that.

Bit of a price jump for the 512gb version! Don't think I'd like to go below 256gb really. Interesting to see Meta is now offering their own index style straps. That's a great move.

Standard Apple tactics regarding the storage capacity! Make the entry level capacity too small and upsell customers the larger one they probably don't really need whilst not offering the "Goldilocks" 256Gb size people actually want!

I'd not be comforable buying the 128Gb version to be honest and I'm sure a lot of existing customers will want more. Problem is by the time you buy the larger capacity headset and the elite strap you're up to £700+

Still tempted but I might wait for reviews before ordering as it's not a cheap headset and selling my Quest 2 isn't going to cover musch of that outlay!

Looks great at first impressions. Don't think I'll go for one for a while as the Pro does have some definite advantages. Looks like Q3 is best for standalone, but Pro for PCVR.

Besides, add a better back strap, Pro controllers and a charging dock and it's approaching or even exceeding Pro price which includes all those.

That said, if I didn't have a Quest Pro I'd be bashing that pre-order button right now.

For the 512gb version? Is the standard strap that bad?

For sim racing, resolution is king for me, the Q3 has a nice res bump over the pro which Tested said was instantly noticeable, and also helped with the newer pancake lens design so I think will suit for that PCVR duty quite well.

however, I would not get the Q3 if I had the Pro, that is IMO still a better all rounder, I prefer the head band design and found it incredibly easy to use glasses with it, although I thought it was too much at £999, however I see your point, I stopped at the Q3 + Battery Strap, I'll get a third party dock when they appear, but it's encroaching towards the Pro price..
