Quest 3 preview

Wow deals already. Very different market to 2020. I wonder if it's best to hold fire and see if any more deals come about.

Does anyone have any clues about how the AV1 encoding might improve pcvr?
It's not that kind of deal, i.e. specifically aimed at the Quest 3, it's just a department wide discount, this occasionally happens on new items like this (I got 10% off a PS5 at launch in a similar manner), often they amend the discounts once they realise it..

Got my discount code. I don't know whether to go for 128Gb (£432) or 512Gb (£558) versions.

Hate this approach of non upgradable storage.

I'm not buying the strap straight away, will wait to see how the default strap is first.

They've updated it, it no longer works.

Well, if you add 4 gaming mice to the order, it does... but then I'm not sure of the point. I guess if you have a lot of stuff you need to buy anyway, to top it up until you reach the point it suddenly starts working (I think a ps5 controller added to the order made it work too).

It's a shame the base model is not 256GB.

Spent a while debating between 128/512GB but in the end I just can't stomach paying £140 more for storage. Generally I prefer to buy most games on steam so I'm not locked into the oculus ecosystem.

Did preorder last night on meta but they cancelled it and didn't tell me why

So the Quest 3 was announced yesterday and we have all the facts and figures now.

Only catching up on things now, but it seems that Meta have released a good headset? That it's better than expectations with the Dual screen LCDs now instead of a single screen and higher FOV?

It's a little disappointing that there is such a big gap between the storages sizes. I do think 256GB should have been the minimum, especially with games coming out like Asgard's Wrath 2 at 25.5GB.

Personally i'm not too concerned about having 128GB storage as i don't tend to play many standalone games. I agree the minimum should have been atleast 256GB though.

Still rocking my 64GB Q2, for the most part it's manageable but have had to consider a little my storage. But yeah the minimum should be 256GB in 2023, it's the phone thing all over again.

Same, I do pcvr anyway
256Gb should have been minimum really, too much of a jump for me £160 too much

I was fine on a 64Gb Q2, only had a few native apps

I can honestly see this will be really good for the price

Generated a 10% discount voucher via the double-lettered mobile place so I'm tempted to opt for the 512gb version.

With double the graphics power we can probably expect storage requirements to double too with the increased texture sizes. I'd expect bigger titles to be 20gb+ storage.

I assume you mean before that discount deal expired or did you find a new one?

On the hotdeals link page if you scroll down a bit you'll see there's a link to generate your own voucher. You just need to sign up to the mobile place's mailing list to get a 10% code.

Our understanding is the code no longer works for quest 3 purchases.
That was my understanding too.
I just called the mobile place to see if I could buy it with that discount and was told that it was an unwritten rule that any customers get a 10% discount on additional products but that I have to do it through their app. But at the moment I only see Meta Quest 2 on there and their main website.

Oh, just called them again and apparently no 10% off VR, only phones and tablets.

is what it says on the page where you can claim the 10% discount code.

That makes me a sad panda :(
