Depth said:It's pretty simple, non blacks shouldn't use the word ****** around black people.
Why would you want to say it anyway? And of course rapping along to a hip hop tune is not racist.

the-void said:Is it the word itself that is racist? If it is - then it should be banned no matter who speaks it. If it is the intent behind the word then why shouldn't a white person be able say it? I am not being racist if I tell you what NWA stands. I am being racist if use the N word as an insult. Surely racism is all about intent and not the word itself.
It gives sad folks something to do.jas72 said:what is the point of BB then?
Thats already the case and has been for years.jas72 said:To curtail the thoughts of others. To only allow them to talk about certain "safe" subjects?
Becomes??jas72 said:Once you curtail the speech of those in the show the show becomes very bland.

which should be a sackable offense
the-void said:That's my point. So why is wrong for Emily to say that word just because she isn't black if she wasn't be racist?

Helium_Junkie said:The word shouldnt even be considered offensive, same as "****".
A Pakistani on this very forum said it was stupid to be offended by an abbreviation, or foreign translation of a perfactly acceptable term, and I agree.
The problem is there are people out there who will say that they take offense just to try and make a quick buck.
And how often do black entertainers call white people "Cracker" and not a thing happens. A white person thinks the word ****** and a thousand other white people rise in uproar.
The whole thing makes me sick.

Well basically its the intention behind the word, if a random white or black guy was to call me a **** on the street then I and most Pakistanis would consider that to be a racist slur and for good reason
Kronologic said:IMO famliliarity is the difference between a word being an insult and a bit of banter.
If Emily came in on the first night and said "Oi ******, Whats your name". That could easily be construed as racist.
But they have known each other for a week now and have been living in very close proximity for that time. Everyone involved knew it was not meant in a derogatory way I think most viewers know that too.
Quite simply the racism in my eyes is that a white person got punished for the innocent usage of a word an a black person was not.
it would have set off riots.the-void said:Is it the word itself that is racist? If it is - then it should be banned no matter who speaks it. If they want to use it in their songs, be my guest, but people will see that they are allowing the use of the word.
Depth said:It's an offensie word when coming from the mouth of non black person in my opinion.
Signing along to a tune sin't the same as casually using the word ****** in coversation.
