Quickest way to humanely kill a small fish ?

Hi,

I usually just give them a good hit but I got told the best way is to put them in a freezer bag (with water) and just stick them in the freezer until the fish just slows down with the drop in temp then eventually ......... :(

Sound like an internal bacterial infection like dropsy or somit and this causes the eyes to protrude with the building pressure inside the fish.

You do realise this was proven not to slowly put them to sleep, but just causes them serious distress?

Be a man, jesus christ, and just put it in a bag and squash him. Done in a second.

Surely without water would be even quicker considering it's a fish.

I use a priest to kill trout and salmon when I catch them. It kills them dead pretty quick.

My fish also got dropsy a few months ago; it showed all the signs except for eyes popping out so I wanted to end it before he had to suffer that pain too :( Somehow, I couldn't think of any way to kill it instantly (no TO THE INTERNET moment)... so I simply took it out the tank and let it suffocate.

After reading this thread, it seems the best way is to bag and squash it. Cutting its head or breaking its neck would actually be nastier I think.

Apparently if you play loud music in his face they dies instantly due to the sound waves sending shocks to the brain.... Maybe try that? Its quick, easy and painless. :)
