Good man :)
From my personal experience (and I am on my 3rd quit having failed to stay quit twice) there comes a point at around 2 weeks in where you think that you've cracked it and relax. You tell yourself one night of smoking doesn't matter and boom you ruin all the work so far.
You might well try and trick yourself back into smoking before long, don't fall for it. Quitting means no more ciggies ever and before too long you'll be very happy about that.

Well done, keep it up and it will get much easier.

When I decided to quit smoking I forced myself to go out drinking the following weekend because I knew that would be my biggest test. I didn't do anything different from a normal night out except I was determined not to smoke. Nearly all my friends smoke/d so it was hard to resist. But, resist the temptation I did and from then it's been relatively easy, other than the weight gain.

16 months on and still going strong.

see that is a problem weight gain i used to be a big guy till i started smoking i used to weigh in at 17 stone . now am only 11 and thats come off me quick if i smoke i dont eat me = :) but i dont wonna smoke but i dont wonna eat

AGHHHHHHHHH :(

What sport do you enjoy? I love mountain biking and that really worked wonders for me when I quit first time around. This time around I can't find the time to get out and on my bike - family committments and small kids.

i like to skate and bmx and play rugby only thing is i cant do much stuff after my accident whilst am having work done on my leg had it crushed by a bus when i was bmxing i could try going ona bike ride now and again but its just all the pain that goes in my leg is unbarable

Decided to quit this morning. My smoking had gotten progressively worse over the last 6 months and I was upto 20+ a day, at least £35 a week and that is just not on. Decided I'm gonna lay off the alcohol for the first month or so too, so with the money saved I am going to buy myself a mountain bike. I reckon not smoking or drinking and saving £200 in 1 month will be enough motivation to not oeven consider smoking again. Especially if I have a shiney £200 bike at the end of it. I'm not going to use patches though, as that's just feeding the nicotine addiction which seems daft to me. I'm just going to beat it.

I utterly failed last night. Was at the pub with a mate watching the footy and was getting so riled I ended buying some from a vending machine :( . I think I'm gonna order Alan Carr's book when I get paid and see if that helps me out.

Well done for giving up smokeing mate! :)

I tried about 3-4 months ago and lasted two weeks befor I gave in. Since then I'm smokeing a lot less thou which is good and currently I'm on about 4-5 a day which is a huge improvement on the 20 I use to be on. Also started smokeing roll-ups as well, found that to be a good way to smoke a little less (and save money) new car arriveing in 5 days which I wont let myself smoke in.

As someone else said it's about brakeing the habbits assosiated with smokeing, driving and smokeing is something I've been doing for years so hopefully stopping that will help along the way. Next one after that is going to the pub and smokeing which will be forced upon me when the new laws come into effect next year. Sadly i don't have the will power to just quit so trying to change my life style a little will hopefuly help.

That's when most people fail - that's why people try to avoid pubs/situations that you would smoke for a while until you've really kicked the habit.

As long as you've quit again this morning though it's fine :)

I'm quitting again this weekend. I've failed a few times but each time I've caved it's been in the pub, so I'm confident I can do it.

Well I halved my intake when I moved house as both my self and the other half decided no smoking in the new property.

We have also been cutting down on the intake as suggested by the GP at the rate of one cig a day less per month.

We are now down from 25 a day before moving to 4 a day soon to be none.

this way helps with reducing the cravings.

Alan Carr's book stopped me smoking 3 years ago. It wasn't a painful process, I still enjoyed going to pubs, and has improved my health and life considerably.

I went from 30 a day to zero. No gum. No patches.

I recommended the book to friends and they've given up with it too.

Best £10 I ever spent.

As of 1st March (*Ash* Wednesday HAR HAR! ;)) I have completely quit smoking (was on about 20-30 a day), and now the cravings are starting to get unbearable!

Its not so much that I think I need the nicotine, but I miss so much the feeling of the smoke going down my throat as well as the action of sparking up and sucking on the wee ciggy, perhaps its the nicotine which makes those actions feel so nice, but whatever it is, and as strange as it sounds, all I want is some sort of tube with smoke to suck on!

Anyone else had similar feelings about quitting smoking?

I've come close to just having that one ciggy which "surely wouldnt make any difference"... except its that one ciggy which is exactly what I'm quitting. I just keep telling myself that so it stops me from having one, and that has worked so far :)

But take me into a chilled room, give me a straw, and let me pretend I'm smoking by being able to see my exhaled breath... pathetic as it sounds, I reckon that would satisfy me somewhat :D

Same here mate, i just started today actually. Decided enoughs enough and bought some patches from boots, nicquitin CQ 2 week pack...£30 flippin pounds so they better help me quite smoking or else im back to puffing lol. Mind you i was smoking about 25 a day so i had to start on the strongest pack, 6 weeks of this arghhhhh.

Actually tbh it hasnt been too bad today, havent had the craving for nicotine like i usually get...must mean those patches are doing the business.

Fingers crossed that in 10 weeks time ill be off cigs for life :)

WELL DONE FOLKS, BE PROUD AND KEEP IT UP!
2 things that sooo haven't changed; Wanton you surprise me not ;) VIRII you are the smoke police. Good to see you plugging the book. It worked for me. 2 years and 9 months now
Keep at it people you will be glad of your efforts!
