R.I.P Abit

I used to always buy Abit boards for a few years:

BE6-II (Slot 1) - 2000
BL7-RAID (478) - 2001
IT7-MAX2V2.0 (478) - 2002
IC7-G (478) - 2003

Some great boards around that time, along with the NF7-S which I never had, but everyone was always raving about it.

Haven't wanted an Abit board for years now, but still a shame to see them go.

Thanks ABIT for getting overclock settings into the BIOS instead of having to move jumpers around a motherboard, also thanks for uGuru and all it's amazing sensors and voltage readings and the classic NF7-2.0 and soundstorm . . .

Apart from that thank god we still got ASUS! :D

You are joking, right?

& you do know that Asus having already spun off their manufacturing are now trying to sell it off?
What that means is that at some point down the line your Asus branded board will be made by the cheapest bidder ...

never liked pukey blue motherboards... I'd be a bit concerned if asus closed down or hugely reduced their quality though.

Not seen what the fuss is about with them, had probably half a dozen boards from them and had more failures of the 1 DFI I unfortunately owned than all the Asus boards put together.

No I'm bleeding not! :D

I spent three years as an ABIT Fan boy, BE6-II running an overclocked coppermine and later the NF7-S/Barton coolie cutter swiftly followed by an AI7/Northwood combo!

Both the NF7-S and AI7 are running today, pure quality work-horses running five + years

Used to not like ASUS boards because . . . well being an ABIt fanboy it was just my job not to like ASUS boards, the same way ASUS fan boys used to describe ABIT models as crocks of **** :o

My first proper mint ASUS board was the A8N-SLI Premium, not sure what ABIT were offering in the A64 days?

ASUS are obviously better boards than ABIT no? otherwise they would still be in business no? . . . dunno it may just be a few weak staff high up at ABIT who fluffed things up?

Actually what is the reason for ABIT pulling out the mobo business?

Asus sell something like 20 million motherboards a year, so this 'OMG they suck' stuff is nonsense.

Of course it's nonsense but it's in the ABIT Fanboy job description to dis ASUS at least twice a day if possible! :D

Maybe ASUS just has better business people running the show or better connections? dunno

Anyway to all you ABIT fanboys sobbing into your hankies, don't sweat it I'm sure they will resurface in the future with a few new staff coming up with good stuff, I've seen Mobo manufacturers go down and then resurface a while later?

Didn't DFI do that or did they just go really quiet for a while?

Or was it EPOX?

As long as there are a good few manufacturers in business we can sleep in peace, it's not quite like AMD pulling out from the CPU market leaving only INTEL, in that respect I don't reckon we will see any price hikes from ASUS?

End of the first overclocker - you can't imagine the effect early Abit boards had on overclocking, and the BP6 was years before it's time.

Sad to see but it's an indication of how easy it is too fall off the pace - the overclocking community will only buy the best and Abit stopped pushing the envelope and suffered as a result.

They're still good imo, but they were never as big a company as Asus and needed to be extra special to compete.
