R.I.P DannyW

It appears the truck has pulled out the hire place, across the road and stopped in the mid section of the road with the back end of his truck stuck out waiting to turn right, he shouldn't have done this and instead should have driven 1km down the road to the roundabout.
I’ve not seen the pictures but I have delivered into that place, assuming it was an articulated truck the driver should indeed have used the roundabout to exit as leaving a trailer across a carriageway is not wise for this very reason.

It would have been full daylight at that time of day at this time of year, I doubt the truck had any lights on.

Trucks do have side impact bars although in my experience they are nigh useless at anything other than very low speed collisions, if the car ended up under the truck it’s not hard to deduce which sort of collision this was.

Sad, very sad.

Really nasty accident I can't see even a dashcam surviving (even if there was one) so it may never be known how this tragedy happened.
Andi.

The truck was one of those heavy vehicle low loaders with the loading ramps in the vertical position, the car went underneath the part that overhangs the trailer rear wheels.

Woke up this morning it still has a deep probably long lasting effect on me. The circumstances of what happened are particularly shocking which is one of the things I’m struggling to come to grips with.

Articulated or rigid do you know - artic low loaders are usually very low....

I don’t have access to the pictures and am struggling to understand how he’s ended up under one of these as they usually are so low due to the design, I’m baffled as to how this has happened assuming he’s ended up underneath the trailer, if somebody could forward a link via trust I’m curious (I think!) to have a look although suspect I’ll regret doing so....

Thanks @mattyg & @wedrum.

Jesus! It’s not. :(

From the compression on the suspension it appears the car has lifted the trailer off the ground.

I’m no expert I’ll freely concede that but at least his demise would have been quick, that wasn’t a sub 40mph impact by any stretch.

What a waste.

It'll get easier Tom. It just shows how fragile life is when it happens so close to home. The main thing is to crack on and be happy, enjoy life. Danny certainly just got on with life how he wanted regardless and we can take a lot from that. I drive some sketchy roads daily and on my way home last night I took my time, noticing all the potential hazards, feeling more mortal than usual. It's a huge shame but just remember the positive memories and make use those as an influence of your life going forward. I think that's the best way to honor and respect those we care for who have passed on.

I recently lost a close friend of mine and even after a few months things will trigger thoughts of it. Sadly he effectively ended his own life through poor choices and I must admit I feel anger towards him for it. I also find myself questioning whether I could have done anything to change the outcome.
I know for a fact I won't forget it and I'm not sure I want to. Don't worry that it will have a long lasting effect on you but use it remember the good points.

Like I said earlier this exact same thing happened in my friends circle when I was 18. You would have thought they would put some skirts or something on these kind of trailers as it is not a uncommon thing to happen? Pains me to say this but might have been a different outcome in a 4x4?

Scania might correct me on this but they couldn't at that point as it's required to be low for loading/offloading of plant. It may even be on hydraulic lifters to facilitate that.

Maybe, but there does seem to be some speed involved here (scary if that is damage from 40mph!). The bonnet seems to have acted as a wedge.

I find myself having slowed down a lot when driving recently.

When the guy died when I was 18 he was only going 30-40 but was a 205gti so a little different in safety. He went in sideways (Was a t junction) through the middle of the trailer.

Geez. I guess there just isn't much strength that high and at that angle.

Reminds me of a layby that we have on a dual carriageway near my house (on a bend) and a truck attempting to parallel park on there...and he wondered why I beeped and got irate. Absolute madness.

Can anyone remember what games Danny used to play? I am sure I played online with him at some point. Might have been Star Trek Online. Bugging me that I can't remember.

Cleaned the thread up a little bit - it's not really the time, nor the place to be discussing what happened. Lets make this a thread to remember Danny by and not discuss what happened and who's fault it was.
