R.I.P DannyW

Woke up this morning it still has a deep probably long lasting effect on me. The circumstances of what happened are particularly shocking which is one of the things I’m struggling to come to grips with.

It gets easier to live with mate.

I lost my best mate nearly 13 years ago (21st june) a day after my birthday and truly the longest day... I miss him every day. And at some point everyday I think about him. I'm 44 now and it still brings a tear to my eye now just typing this.

Freak accident on a motorbike, A couple of inches one way and we would have been having a laugh and telling him to buy a lotto ticket.

He had been a new dad for just over 6 weeks.

Life is short and can be mean. Don't take it for granted. But don't let it get you down either.

You will get better at coping with the loss..

Cleaned the thread up a little bit - it's not really the time, nor the place to be discussing what happened. Lets make this a thread to remember Danny by and not discuss what happened and who's fault it was.

I think people are just in disbelief and trying to get their head around what has happened. I don't think there is any ill intent here.

Can anyone remember what games Danny used to play? I am sure I played online with him at some point. Might have been Star Trek Online. Bugging me that I can't remember.

I would like to keep this question afloat if I may.

Unlucky, such a shame these incidents happen due to lapses by drivers at the same time.

Modern cars have collision warning systems to assist in such situations. Whilst they shouldn’t be relied upon they do help stop accidents like this.

Absolutely spot on.

Like I said earlier this exact same thing happened in my friends circle when I was 18. You would have thought they would put some skirts or something on these kind of trailers as it is not a uncommon thing to happen? Pains me to say this but might have been a different outcome in a 4x4?
I quite agree, the side / under run protection on HGV’s should be far more substantial than it is imo.

Scania might correct me on this but they couldn't at that point as it's required to be low for loading/offloading of plant. It may even be on hydraulic lifters to facilitate that.

Unfortunately in this case it appears the hgv involved was a rigid and by definition has a raised chassis to allow clearance for the driveline and it utilised ramps for loading / unloading of light plant machinery unlike an articulated low loader which don’t have any drivetrain, use smaller wheels and are very close to the ground.

Knowing exactly where this happened still leaves me at a loss as to how it resulted in this. :(

Look like the lorry was pulling out of the plant hire place, pulling into the other side of the ring road. would have been dark so not sure he saw the side of the lorry and went under :(

No it wouldn't. It would have been incredibly bright unless raining or a dark day. It's almost light at 5am at the moment and would have been just as light a few weeks back

And sadly, given that pedestrians can survive 40mph impacts, there was an element of speed here :(

I Think it's pretty easy to tell what happened from one of the pictures..

the lorry pulled out from the road/exit, Danny came around the corner and hit it in the worst possible location..

Yes, clearly it’s easy to tell what happened it’s more a matter of how if you see what I mean.

Anyway it’ll all come out in due course.

I'm not sure how many 1 ton pedestrians would survive a 40 mph impact with an immovable object.

If both are going at 40mph then that is 80mph of force, or are they both going 20mph to yield 40mph force ?
Mythbusters disproved that logic. A 40mph crash is just that. However in this case it was only the top of the car offering any resistance the bulk of the car went under the lorry.
Andi.

RIP Danny, horrible way to go. 29 is no age, send my condolences onto his family and mrs Tom.

Also you know where i am @Tom|Nbk if you ever need a chat! Get talking more ***** to each other again, can carry on that convo about how i make you look tiny :p ;)

Guys we can speculate all day long there is / will be an inquest into it. It doesn’t make it easier.

My concern is Danny’s login was used on Sunday which probably / definitely means one of his family members came onto here, speculation may not make it easier for them if they are actively reading.

I’m still in shock and now just want to comfort his family and friends on Monday when I attend his funeral

Once again it’s horrendous circumstances and I can’t believe it.

I totally agree with this sentiment, I understand people naturally wanting to understand what happened but let’s save it for another time.
