Ive had NVida all my life, Ive got a Geforce 7950GX2 1 Gb card and i use to be one of those people who would not give ATI the light of day.

But ive been reviewing the 8800gts, gtx and the hd2900xt..... and what the hell, its a gamble so ive order a whole new system overhall, including the ATI HD2900XT.... i am a little worried.

The way i feel is if the HD2900XT doesnt perform really well i either get the 8800 Ultra or just wait for Geforce 9... I know its a long way off.. Life is about risks!

The main reason for the upgrade is so i can play Crysis. I just hope the ATI card does the game justice!

If your main reason for an upgrade is to be able to play Crysis imho the best option would be to wait till Crysis is out and then see the reviews of it to decide what card is the best for this game, also by that time AMD might have came out with the 2900 respin and price will most likely have came down.

But if you are buying a card today, I would probably lean towards the Nvidia range as they seem to be the slightly better choice at the moment.

Buying a card just cause it has a name on it is imho stupid, I always get what gives me the best bang for the buck and has the features that I need. Always research what you want the card to do and see which manufacturer gives you this at a price that suits you.

Thanks for the info.... I have looked into these cards for the last few months.

I just feel that for a value point of view, the ati card is about the same price as the gts and performs as well as the gtx in some cases..... if not better!

I just felt maybe it would be a good time to give ati a try. Hell if it all goes wrong, ill go back to nvidia with the geforce 9, or ill just put my 7950 back in... LOL. :)

Every thing i buy goes into my main machine n e way, and every thing i take out goes into my back up machine, so i havent really lost any thing with this gamble..

Hey Extreme, i think ill have almost the same system setup as you.... LOL

Im getting the Sap 512mg HD2900XT, Intel Core2Duo e6600, Corsair twinX 2gb DDR2 6400, DFI LanParty UT, and a 74 GB WD Raptor!

You think it will all run allright?

P.S Ive only got a Enermax 600watt PSU! Also Bought a Corsair 1GB Vista Flash Drive, hoping it will speed Vista up a little!

Hi mgncdarkangel,

Sorry to say this but using a flash drive for Vista's ReadyBoost function isn't all that it's hyped up to be from what I've read about it, supposedly it does give you effectively more ram, but from what I've read it's seriously slow, like reading/writing data to the hard drive page file.

So basically it allows you to have more memory-hungry applications open at once, but that won't run very quickly as they're limited by the speed of the flash drive (usually between 20-30MBps max) :(

Although the reviews I've read may not do ReadyBoost justice, just wanted to warn you.

Banjo

Just downloading these now, I know my CPU is going to be the bottleneck (X2 4200+), but i'll bench (Vista Ultimate x32) when I finally get the card installed (not had drivers actually on it yet).

Earlier in the thread dates were checked for previous releases, and they're Wednesday more often that not. ATI release drivers monthly. Therefore it has to be tomorrow or the day after :) Also they tend to release between 4PM and 9PM. So not set in stone, but a pretty safe bet.

Yep 7.5's have only got 2x days left now to come out, only reason i can think off as to why they gona come out right at the end of the month is the x2900.
