R600 HD2900XT 8.38 RC7 *Links inside*

i think my 2900 is in the process of dieing on me, im getting what looks like static flashes next to the mouse pointer, and 3D06 just failed giving me a D3D device failure error whilst looping the GPU tests.

A friend of mine has just had to return his Saphire (same as mine) after his started to do the exact same thing before finally totally giving up the ghost about 3 days later, Bad batch of ram anyone ?

 Did you both buy from OcUK?

No and no comment ;)

That said we were both using Vista 64 and the 7.4 drivers dual monitors and high resolution. Its all a bit complicated but I had to go back to using my 1800XT as my new 2900XT wouldn’t work with some software I needed (RC fixes the issue and it now works), Anyway I’ve just banged the RC7 beta drivers on it and its looped through twice without a hitch so maybe it was either an issue with the 7.4s or a bad driver transition between 1800 and 2900. I'll keep my eye on it.

Thats a driver bug afaik :)

can anyone with 2 x 1600 x 1200 panels please try and launch a game or something, do you get oddness on your second panel ?

i'm getting an offset copy of my main panel that looks like its been deinterlaced

this is only when it hits 3D mode is deffo a driver issue as it is not present when i use Cat 7.4s

These drivers are a load of BS. I got better performance from the ones on the site (only by 1-3fps, but you know :p).

*reinstalls old ones*

I'm not even sure thses are 8.38's now (even though it says it in CCC, but whatever>.>).

Yup I get exactly the same issue, only happens in OpenGL applications ive noticed, such as Doom 3, Quake 4, Wolf : ET, etc.

goodo, the more i look into the little probs i'm/was having it seems to be driver related especially Vista as XP seems ok (not withstanding the above open GL error)

well i was hoping these drivers were gonna give R600 HD 2900XT owners some good news ,but looking at the posts its not looking good....but maybe these arnt the full release one anyway... will hold on a little why before i decide if my new rig is gonna be CROSSFIRE or SLI....

Ive had NVida all my life, Ive got a Geforce 7950GX2 1 Gb card and i use to be one of those people who would not give ATI the light of day.

But ive been reviewing the 8800gts, gtx and the hd2900xt..... and what the hell, its a gamble so ive order a whole new system overhall, including the ATI HD2900XT.... i am a little worried.

The way i feel is if the HD2900XT doesnt perform really well i either get the 8800 Ultra or just wait for Geforce 9... I know its a long way off.. Life is about risks!

The main reason for the upgrade is so i can play Crysis. I just hope the ATI card does the game justice!

Hey mate dont worry...ati will deliver. they havent released 1 official driver for the card yet which i still think wont be that good....as there is too much pressure on ATI atm. the next 7.6 or 7.7 is where i am expecting some proper gains and optimisations. :D

Hey Extreme, i think ill have almost the same system setup as you.... LOL

Im getting the Sap 512mg HD2900XT, Intel Core2Duo e6600, Corsair twinX 2gb DDR2 6400, DFI LanParty UT, and a 74 GB WD Raptor!

You think it will all run allright?

P.S Ive only got a Enermax 600watt PSU! Also Bought a Corsair 1GB Vista Flash Drive, hoping it will speed Vista up a little!

These cards are definatly insane on theOCing front. Basically every card can stabily OC to 850/950 on stock cooling. But, the AMD gpu clock tool doesn't like setting it back to default clocks for me (the screen turns blank like the moniter isn't getting any signal, but the pc's still running fine). But now that I know that it isn't much of a problem:)
